Pontius Pilate wasn't a liar. He was a backwater procurator under the proconsul in Syria, who basically got his job thanks to his wife's connections back in Rome. He had to keep a lid on things politically, didn't find anything wrong with Jesus, but the mobs were demanding his execution. Pilate's hands were tied when the people demanded he release a known revolutionary instead of Jesus.
Did you intentionally disregard the false witnesses (liars) that sealed Christ's fate that according to Jewish law was a mandatory death sentence? You are correct that it was riotous Jews that caused Pilot to relent but not without first telling those who condemned Jesus that His innocent blood was on them and he washed his hands. However, Pilot's hands WERE NOT tied; he alone had the authority over life or death. He literally chickened out because he did not have sufficient troops available at the time. Do you know the after story about Pilot and his wife as found in the traditions of the church?
