Just want to wish y'all a happy Columbus Day...

We've come a long way since he set sail...

Often wonder what folk like him would make of the world today...

Oh... And a Happy Thanksgiving too...

Canuckistania celebrates it in October...

Because we're awesome...

Columbus Day has a strange history, it has only been a national holiday in the US since 1971. One of the biggest reasons for the holiday was an attempt to honor a repressed minority in the US, Italian immigrants, Columbus was of course Italian. The problem of course is three fold, Columbus never set foot on the North Central or South American mainland. He waged genocide, rape torture and enslaved indigenous peoples on the islands he did invade. And it is now well known that Scandinavians were the first Europeans to land on North America. In many parts of the nation Columbus Day is no longer celebrated and has been replaced by Indigenous Peoples Day. The states of Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, Vermont, South Dakota, New Mexico,and Maine do not recognize it and have each replaced it with celebrations of Indigenous People's Day (in Hawaii, Discoverers' Day, in South Dakota, Native American Day). Columbus Day also competes with Leif Erikson Day.

Kevyn, you have now defined the presence of yourself and your leftist ilk in America to a tee: you are the human version of ants at a picnic, termites in a house or cockroaches in a kitchen.

Termites, ants and roaches, all United under the umbrella of today's Democratic Party.

It's been around longer than 1971, so I checked it out it turns out ...{The first state-wide celebration was held in Colorado in 1907. In 1937, Columbus Day became a holiday across the United States. Since 1971, it has been celebrated on the second Monday in October.}

With that said I agree I think it should be taken away altogether, it equates to living a lie and honoring a diabolical tyrant, why should we honor that, it would be like having a Trump day. Sorry people but I couldn't help myself.

Apparently the lie is that Columbus was an ogre and Howard Zinn created that lie by deliberate omission to create a false picture of Columbus as a monster. But that won’t get as much publicity.
