It depends on what you get your degree in and where you teach. Private schools can pay you whatever they want but state schools generally have a pay scale that, while it won't knock your socks off, isn't to be sneezed at either--especially if you have a doctorate and some teaching under your belt. I have a friend who had her masters in English but made less than half of what she made when she got her Doctorate. She just retired making over a hundred K and it would have been more had she gotten her Ph.D. earlier.

If you want to make more than a plumber makes sure you have your Ph.D. and plenty of experience teaching--wouldn't hurt to be published too. Whether you teach in public or private you should make at least as much as a plumber--and if you make that much I know a lot of people who would be happy with that...

My point was merely that my family have always been hard workers... Even though most of them never made it to high school....

I believe those who are living in White Anglo Saxon countries enjoy great economic prosperity.

Our poor live better than some nations so called prosperous do.

The white privilege is the opportunity to thrive without a degree of any kind.

We're so blessed that our poor don't usually work in our fields.

Though for most of history the greater part of Europe would have been considered amongst the poorest of nations...

Both the US and Canada have been fortunate in our prosperity...

At first sight of this post I thought it was advocate of the social condition that stymies this country in it's tracks so far being the country it professes it is ( constituionaly speaking of course.) Then reading further I discerned that the Professor whom wants to implement this mandate requiring students to take a course that denounces the concept of white privilege as opposed to advocating it makes her one of the few remaining wise high profile persons that can recognizes a problem and knows how to go about the business of solving it.Accalades for the Great Professor.

In my opinion she isn't denouncing the concept, she is saying people without color are inflicted with it even if they don't think they are, and need to feel guilty about it even if we worked our butts off to achieve what we have without any help from the really privileged people. The ones who can afford anything their hearts desire. Sorry, but I don't agree with her in the least bit. I know a lot of people of color, and some take personal responsibility for the outcome of their lives, while others would rather blame "whitey" for their sorry lot in life. That is their choice to make, not mine. But I will not feel any guilt about myself for them making their own decision which way to go.
