No, the AR15 is not an assault rifle, but the fact that "AR" are the initials for "Armalite Rifle" is not the reason why. The AR15 does not function the same as a military weapon, it is not capable of automatic fire. The designation of the AR15 as an "assault rifle" is a purely political construct based on what it looks like, it has nothing to do with the actual function of the gun.

The terms semi-automatic assault rifle, Saturday night special, plastic gun, cop killing gun, and cop killing bullets were all coined in the back room of the Brady Center. It takes a lot of fear to keep Sarah Brady living the life style she is accustom. Last I heard she takes $900,000 a year to run her house of fear. They pull their facts out of thin air and aren't above spinning lies to reach their goal of making her rich. If her get rich crimes revolved around anything but disarming America she would have been jailed instead of being the darlin of DC.

10 or 12 years ago they changed their name from Handgun Control to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. It was said to honor the Brady's. It was done because a group of gun owners bought up a bunch of domain names surrounding the group. On these sights they put real stats on gun violence. Not the out right lies pumped out by these criminals and they are criminals. I have followed this group since it's creation and this group is one of the most dishonest groups that uses fear to gain it's donations. No, but Chicago isn't the whole country and while you cons and other criminals would hang on to your AR's the majority of the country would turn their guns in and eventually, over time, economic scarcity will make them so expensive that only the wealthy, including criminals, will be able to afford them.

And if there are people bent on killing me then why haven't they done so? I don't hide and I have always been very open about my behavior? If someone with an automatic weapon want's to kill me why haven't they done so? And here is something else--my business has been robbed twice (attempted) and my house robbed once (again attempted) and in all three cases the culprits left causing only minor damage. Why, because I have loud and obnoxious alarms. For some odd reason burglars, even armed ones, don't like to rob places when there is a lot of noise alerting others that some bad guys are doing something very illegal.

And I know there is the argument about people out in the country needing to protect themselves but my mother-in-law lives way, way, out in the country and her alarm scared away a group of kids trying to break into her place and before she could get up, get her gun (a .22 pump), and shoot any they had scattered to the wind.

Now the point being is that yes, there are crooks and bad people out there--many who will have semi-autos no matter what we do--but most won't and by using common defense methods, including legal guns, you can live safely and if in fear it would be only at your choosing.

The argument you cons are making is that you can only defend yourselves if you have the most lethal weapons possible. That's nonsense and if you are trained to use a revolver or rifle or shotgun you can be just as lethal if you have a semiautomatic weapon.

That is our argument as you imagine it, but it leaks like a screen door in a submarine. There are so many holes your POV that they are not worth addressing.

Had you ever completed a firearm self-defense training course, you would probably understand.

FYI: I am trained to use a handgun (revolver or semi-auto), a rifle and a shotgun as self-defense weapons. The choice of what type of firearm I use is my business. In certain circumstances, the semi-auto does, in fact, give me more options depending on the threat.

The bottom rifle is a modified AK47, the end of the gas tube has been moved aft and the diameter of the gas port has been bored to allow the rifle to cycle properly.
