POLL: - TEAM DML / AUGUST 15, 2019
After much consideration – and input from President Trump – Israel announced the final decision on whether to allow Muslim congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar to travel to their country – and gave a resounding “NO” as their answer.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained his decision, saying, “As a vibrant and free democracy, Israel is open to any critic and criticism, with one exception: Israel’s law prohibits the entry of people who call and operate to boycott Israel, as is the case with other democracies that prevent the entry of people whose perception harms the country.”
“Congresswomen Tlaib and Omar are leading activists in promoting boycott legislation against Israel in the US Congress. The two-member congressional visitation plan shows that their intent is to hurt Israel and increase its unrest against it,” he added.
Tlaib and Omar, who are both vocal advocates of Palestinian rights and had backed the boycott-Israel movement, had planned to arrive in Israel on Friday. Their trip had been planned by a nonprofit organization, Miftah, headed by Palestinian lawmaker Hanan Ashrawi.
President Trump had encouraged Israel to ban the two congresswomen, tweeting Thursday morning, “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”
A slew of Democrat lawmakers slammed President Trump over the matter. Trump responded on Twitter, “Representatives Omar and Tlaib are the face of the Democrat Party, and they HATE Israel!”

Israel on Thursday announced that it would deny Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) entry to the territory during an upcoming overseas trip, according to multiple reports.
The decision was announced moments after President Trump tweeted that it would show “great weakness” for Israel to allow the two congresswomen into the country.
The article goes on to state the following:
The president has been an outspoken critic of both Omar and Tlaib, who last year became the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.
Trump tweeted Thursday morning, “It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”
BREAKING: Omar responds to Netanyahu after denied entry to Israel
The article goes on to state the following:
“Trump’s Muslim ban is what Israel is implementing, this time against two duly elected Members of Congress. Denying entry into Israel not only limits our ability to learn from Israelis, but also to enter the Palestinian territories,” she continued.
“As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, it is my job to conduct oversight of foreign aid from the United States of America and to legislate on human rights practices around the world,” she added. “The irony of the ‘only democracy’ in the Middle East making such a decision is that it is both an insult to democratic values and a chilling response to a visit by government officials from an allied nation.”
The Israeli government confirmed earlier Thursday that it would block Omar and Tlaib’s visit this weekend to the country, noting that Israeli law prohibits entry for those who have advocated for a boycott of Israel.
