Socialism is a necessary step to Communism. Federal Government has done nothing for schools. One of the goals of Communism is to take over the schools using design and the ignorance of teachers. It should have been turned over to the states as our founders intended it to be. These people can't run their mouth or budget so they sure can't run the education The Federal Reserve banksters donate out of their cold stone hearts our text books and they also decide who wrights them. So if I had kids in school I sure the Hell be reading them. Except democRats that are clueless on the documents that founded our nation and more than likely can't read. above a three letter word.

If our capitalist system is so screwed up,
how did we become the great country that we are and why do so many people want to come here? I am so sick and tired of people putting down our country.
It had nothing to do with excluding the rights of other people..
Good regulation and unions had the biggest roll.

That is NOT a socialist country, it is a quasi republic that uses typical communist criminality, whereby all the countries wealth is funneled into the personal bank accounts of the elite.
It isn't what one officially calls oneself that establishes identity.............it's one's behavior that tells the truth.
BTW, the soviet union was not a communist State...............it was a criminal enterprise..................just as Russia and China are today.

Obama and Hillary are criminal enterprises to the eyes of the coherent.
And so far we are still a Republic.
Socialism is the last stage before communism.
Both are left wing philosophy.

Socialism and Communism are designed to treat poorer societies as less than beef cattle.
Moldy and Cortez two anarchists in a row.

Are services that benefit the whole society a bad thing or a good thing and how are we defining “social”?
That's a loaded question and you're being disingenuous by asking it. Don't equate socialism with society, they are two entirely distinct phenomenon.
Society forms naturally, out of the basic human desire for social interaction and the safety inherent in numbers. Human society is safer and more attuned to the well-being of its members than isolation can ever afford.
Socialism is an unnatural political regime foisted on unsuspecting societies (note that the society must exist in order for socialism to take root) wherein the basic tenets of human progress are replaced by empty catch phrases such as 'from each according to his ability', and 'to each according to his need'. It removes the incentive provided by profit and replaces it with abject slavery. But instead of being enslaved to a given owner, it is slavery to the collective, whereby everyone 'owns' everyone else. But slavery, nonetheless.
In short, there is no 'right' answer to that question, because a 'no' will garner the accusation of the person being 'antisocial', akin to a Nazi' in certain eyes. A 'yes' will affirm that socialism is a good thing and ignore the fact that neither answer actually refers to what it is intimated to be, so my answer is
maybe, depending on how you try to spin it politically.
I have chores, here's a couple of shining examples to hold you over. Guatemala. Ecuador...
