A Texas tragedy. Whataburger has been sold to a Chicago company.

Sigh. Did some looking. The Dobson family (Daddy founded the business in 1950) decided to sell a majority share of the business in order to devote more time to a company that is part investment driven, part philanthropy. They've decided to give back (Forbes had them worth $2.6B in 2015 and they sold for around $2B so they'll be fine). Can't be upset with that part of the situation, but a Chicago investment bank? All we can do is pray they know what they have and don't "youknowwhat" it up with an effort to make it more progressive. I'll keep eating there for now (A1 Thick & Hearty...Mmmmmm!) but if they EVER make any political statements that go against Texas values they will find out that even Texans will jettison a loved one for aberrant behavior!

I love their food, and my only complaint about them is the speed of their service. They aren't fast food even though they're called that.
I had a deal with the manager when I worked nights so I could call in my order, and come pick it up.
That gave them time to raise the calf to butcher size, process it, and make my burger.
And they didn't look at me like I was high when I went in at 3:00 am for a double green chili cheeseburger anymore!
Let's just hope the investors don't jack it up!

Gee maybe we can get a whataburger in Illinois.
It might keep some Illinoisans from moving out of Illinois if the whataburger is good enough.

I dunno about that...A goodly portion of the middle class has had it

See, that's the thing that bothers me. They'll try to expand to make money for the investors, and quality will deteriorate.
If that happens, Texas will reject them. They'll lose the market that built them.

If that happens the Chicago firm will sell whatacurger for a fraction of what it spent so that they could get back some of it investment back and whoever buys that franchise from the Chicago firm will then have to invest in getting the franchise back to where it was originally. How they go about that will be up in the air and anybodies guess.

Can't disagree (about the "fast" part). But even as an older fellow, I never understand why everyone is in such a gol-darned hurry all the time. Not to change the subject, but is anyone as excited as I am to watch the Prez throw his hat back into the ring in Orlando tonight? I'll probably be watching on Right Side Broadcasting. (I had a link there, but if error'd out. Just go to
https://rsbnetwork.com/ and you can find the link. They're actually on the air now, but there's about 2 hours until things get going. Hmmm...2 hours...time enough to get an order at Whataburger without calling ahead.

Thanks for the link. I love my ringside seat in my living room.
I know. Gettin the popcorn ready to go with my Whataburger. Keep the volume down so the cheering doesn't deafen you.

The only reason their speed irritated me was because I had a little time between trucks to grab a bite, and get some computer work done before the needy people showed up. If I didn't get it all done in time, I would be hit from 10 different directions with impatient needy people, and I didn't like that. And, I handled the needies much better with a full belly.

Haha...the "needy people". I understand. Well, at least they could accommodate you. I've found that the folks who work at most Whataburgers are actually pretty nice, and they care about their customers. Not on a level with Chik-Filet maybe, but still better than most burger-flippin' joints. And the food is pretty darn good.
Just finished watching the Orlando Trump Rally. How can you watch something like that and not feel uplifted. Apologies to af1, moldy, kevyn, woody, perma, rumi, and the rest - that wasn't directed at you folks. After all, you've got over 20 rally's going at a time all over the place, and I'll bet if you add them all together, you could...uh...oh never mind. I don't know where I was going with that.
