I live out in the country, and have left my door unlocked on a number of occasions. The mess, (3 grandchildren, 4 dogs, 7 cats, 2 horses and a donkey, though the horses and the donkey don't come in the house, although I used to have a Welsh Pony that figured out how to push the door open, we had to block the front porch off so she couldn't get up there) was always there waiting for me
I remember one of those urban legends, I think from the 1970s or there abouts, concerning a cab driver in a big city. I don't know if it was because of a garbage strike or something else, but he apparently needed to get rid of a lot of garbage. He decided that each day he would place a bag of garbage in the back seat of his cab, but somehow he repackaged it to look valuable as if it was a forgotten item from another passenger. Inevitably, each day the garbage was stolen from the cab.
