To see or not to see ... that is the question

Our species has always sought to believe in storytelling. Since the caves, stories have always been a way of temporarily escaping from our own existence and buying into an alternate world where things were different or better or where the good guys always win.
Stories were originally oral tradition. Then along came writing, and the ability to transcribe those stories into a manuscript; then books. In each case you used your imagination to create the fictional world from the story that the storyteller rolled out to the world of manuscripts. Your imagination took the words and created the reality that the author wanted you to experience.
Books were the primary venue for this escapism. They required you to visualize in your mind the scenes as written, and to hear the dialog that the characters spoke off of the written page.
Then came along radio. Now you didn't have to imagine the character's voices any more. The work of translating the written word into a voice in your head was done for you.
Once television was omnipresent, the second part of that visualization was also done. You had the visual as well as the aural inputs and no longer had to imagine what the written word had to say.
For all of these media, to have a successful bit of fiction that is accepted by the recipient, there has to be the creation of what is termed in the industry as the "suspension of disbelief." This means that you have to involve your audience in such a way that (at least for the time you have them) they actually get sucked into the reality that you have created and temporarily believe it.
Having worked in radio and television for the major part of my life, I am pretty much immune to being caught up in much of what I see and hear from outside my own existence. But even I, skeptical as I am, have found the occasional movie or written story that I could allow myself to be sucked into that alternate universe and enjoy being there. James Cameron's movie 'Avatar' is a classic example of this. Incredible graphics that create an entire world and its unique inhabitants to the point that you can imagine that they really exist (at least until you exit the theater.) Add to that a great plot and you have the recipe for an irresistible experience.
Even reality TV (so called) creates that alternate universe and pulls you into their world, either in a symbiotic sense or in a voyeuristic one. Even though it's scripted and artificial, there is a modicum of truth in it (but not much).
Then there is the world of WWE wrestling where the entire experience is raw and so artificial that belief in the venue is difficult if not impossible to achieve. But there are those who are true believers even in that blusterous, hyped-up totally unreal world of combat and intrigue.
When the world of the WWE merges with the world of politics and governance, we have our current governmental situation. Bluster replaces rational thought, and lying replaces truth. Alternate facts become the currency of the day, and reality becomes blurred with an overlay of disbelief to the point that the average citizen probably doesn't know what to believe … so they believe what they are told.
William J. Lederer wrote a book years ago called "Nation of Sheep." that was described: "Discusses the effects of the apathy and ignorance of the American people on United States foreign policy, relations with other nations, and use of foreign aid funds."
Judge Napolitano (of Fox News fame) wrote one of the same title which is summarized thusly : "Describes how the federal government is encroaching on American freedoms and challenges citizens to fight for their constitutional rights."
Of the two descriptions, the ignorance and apathy part probably rings true for the followers of our current president. The alternate reality that he creates is one that his followers want to believe in. It consists of a homogeneous population that believes in one religion, one race, one set of rules and doesn't require any hard thinking since it is done for them at all levels. It could be ignorance, apathy, or just plain mental laziness that creates this acceptance of unreality. Whichever it is, it is a recipe for at best, an authoritarian regime that is somewhat benevolent or at worst, a dictatorship.

We report, you decide.

Well said, and I agree. Without simple truths of the facts, we live in a constant flux of shadow boxing. There needs to be an open publication of federally and state's passed bills that have been passed and bills that are on the table, to also include the sneaky ones that get piggybacked onto them. That is the true and uncorrupted version of the state of things. If people took the time to read them they would clearly see the intentions of the past president and the present one.

as i said to someone else this morning . YOU are as nutty as a fruitcake in a peanut patch . my belief in President Trump's ability to bring this country back into a working nation , getting people back to work , is a good thing for our nation . the liberal news media's interpretation and their comments of collusion has been shown to be a LIE . every thing that the dems. and their media propagandist have said the President , has done has become null and void . yet they keep pushing the same agenda to keep everyone they can in a state of hysteria . hate Trump , hate Trump . he is dangerous , he is loony toons . you keep believing their propaganda an keep voting for them dems . you will be guilty by association of the destruction of America . President Trump's make America great again , is not a slogan yo bring back racist hateful days . it is about bringing factories back and putting Americans no matter what race , back to work and growing in independents . why the dems. are so against his work is baffling to me . except that their nominee which was a liar and a criminal did not get elected . she couldn't keep up the destruction of America , that obumer started .

<sigh>Another koolade afficionado. Attack the messenger, not the message.

The objective is noble, but the reality is somewhat different. I assume you're using the unemployment rates as an objective criteria. The jobs that are being created are mainly low-paying jobs, primarily in health care, hospitality and agriculture. There are many more people that are underemployed, after being laid off from good middle-class jobs and winding up as greeters at Walmart.

Quote:
the liberal news media's interpretation and their comments of collusion has been shown to be a LIE . every thing that the dems. and their media propagandist have said the President , has done has become null and void .

I'm assuming that you are referring to the Mueller report and the coverage of it. Point of fact … Mueller did not find any viable evidence of conspiracy, which is notoriously hard to prosecute. He did find over FORTY (count'em) FORTY instances where representatives of the campaign had contacts with Russian operatives or representatives. While there may have been no PLANNED collusion, there was certainly an abnormal number of contacts with the Russians, including Manafort giving detailed polling information to the Russians. Interesting how the Russians targeted voters in specific districts in the midwest … how did they know where to target with their misinformation/propaganda?
This is not to mention the ten major confirmed items of Obstruction of Justice to try to get the Mueller investigation shut down. In the face of these facts, I find it difficult to agree with you that all the conclusions are now null and void.

Quote:
yet they keep pushing the same agenda to keep everyone they can in a state of hysteria . hate Trump , hate Trump . he is dangerous , he is loony toons . you keep believing their propaganda an keep voting for them dems .

I don't hate Trump … I actually feel sorry for him. A small man totally out of his league and incapable of performing the duties of the presidency. He uses bluster and untruths as a smoke screen to distract from his failures. Almost ten thousand lies and untruths in two years is a pretty good indicator that there is something amiss in this administration (not to mention the number of high-ranking officials that have either resigned or been fired for ethical or financial misconduct). Birds of a feather … etc.

Quote:
you will be guilty by association of the destruction of America .

This will only be true if an alternate universe exists in your mind. I believe in the Constitution and two-hundred-plus years of tradition. It would seem that you would want to upend much of that and worship a dictator. I hope I'm wrong.

Quote:
President Trump's make America great again , is not a slogan yo bring back racist hateful days . it is about bringing factories back and putting Americans no matter what race , back to work and growing in independents .

I would ask you then, why are the white supremacists so enamored with Trump. Also, check your facts, those factories are not coming back in any great numbers, and when they are, they are being highly automated. This does not create jobs for anyone, of any race.

Quote:
why the dems. are so against his work is baffling to me . except that their nominee which was a liar and a criminal did not get elected . she couldn't keep up the destruction of America , that obumer started .

As I started this answer, you are obviously a fan of the koolade. These are tired talking points of the right wing that are repeatedly used when there is no other retort to the factual presentations against this president. If you are going to support Trump, please find some other mode of attack. This one is dead and buried.

P.S. Try to use a little better sentence structure and grammar … what you wrote is difficult to decipher in spots.

I do not have your post in this reply area to go back to , to comment on each of your dissected areas of my post . I tried to go back to read your second dispute . every thing I had written was lost . So . as I have said before . there are companies that I pull freight out of that have put on a second shift that was down to one shift and others that have started skeleton shifts on their third shifts . people ARE getting back to work . yep I am sure with the greed of some companies they use robots . I hope they fail . if per chance I get into trouble I could always comment that I wish some D.A. would go away . is this obstruction ? NO . your dem. party leadership is trying to make a mountain range from a couple of grains of sand . I think it was Pelosi who said on national TV , we will do any thing we can to remove this man from office . the Russian , collusion , case was started BEFORE the election . as a insurane policy just in case . if the DNC and hitlary did not PAY a foreigner to get info on Trump . which has been shown to be unproven and based on comments that are unsubstantiated . then NONE of this would be happening . so blame the people who invented all of this . not the President , for defending himself from such lies . s seems rather very odd that the dems. can have a rep. from Mn. who slanders Israel , yet that's ok . cover up for her . she didn't mean what she said . she was uncertain of how her comments would be taken or how it might offend some one . you dem. followers seem to be nothing but a bunch of puppets . believe what we say everyone else is lying . do as we say not as we do . seems to be the dems. leadership moto . we're going to do as we darn well please and blame the repubs. for doing it . President Trump , may of given the upper class a big tax cut . yet from this more companies are hiring , more people are working and having higher earnings . there is talk of making lower and middle tax rates permanent . not done yet but is in the works . this President is working for America . not like obumer , who did every thing to create chaos and resentment which divided the classes and races of our country . redistribution of wealth . then no one in the lower class received a thing which created animosity and anger for the upper classes . more people in our history loosing their jobs an going onto government handouts . yea , obumer , was great . GREAT at trying to destroy this country . hitlary , was suppose to follow suit , drag us down . they were hoping to be the beginning of the start of the one world government . this is your dem. party . this is your nominees for the white house the socialist SCUM . out to finish obumers , dream . so the koolade you speak about . I think that most dem. followers have had to much LSD slipped into anything they drink to believe the nonsense and lies from you leadership . but try to have a nice day anyway .

Really? Where are we supposed to get those "simple truths and facts"? From MSM? That's my laugh for the day! Oh! From a printed version of all federal and state bills that passed. Most Americans wouldn't even try to read them...they are written by lawyers for lawyers and so full of gobblety goop language that most of us wouldn't understand ("us" includes me). Did you ever read the bill for Obamacare? ALL 3,000 pages?
Even Pelosi said you have to vote it in to see what it says.
Here's a new one! Why not have a system where if a news person lies and it is proven, they loose their job. Or make it illegal for news people to lie about someone else and call it "slander". Believe it or not, slander is not a new word, it's been around a while. But news agencies around the country do it with NO repercussions. Why not make it where when a reporter calls someone a name, he/she has to PROVE the tag or loose their job.
THEN....we would get some REAL simple truths and facts, wouldn't we?

The problem is there are so many opinion castors nowadays...

They aren't presenting news....

Sometimes it is difficult to remain focused...

Thank you for proving the point of my original post so well. I rest my case.

I have learned that anyone who says they are immune to getting sucked in never are immune. A few of the leftist talking points you used show that.

And no I am not a Trump supporter.

In a nutshell most people are sheep. Including reporters. People tend to believe whats most comfortable for them to believe.

I support Trump. Obama lied 1,063 documented times while in office.

Asked on CNN's "New Day" whether he believed Obama lied more often than Trump, Santorum, a former GOP senator from Pennsylvania, demurred, saying that the former president's untruths carried more weight than those of the current commander in chief.

"I think the substance of the previous president's lies were much more important than the substance of what the crowd size was at the inaugural," Santorum said, referring to the White House's claim last year that Trump's inauguration crowd was the largest in history.

Now, I understand that this statement is from a former GOP senator and that his remarks may be biased. I admit it. On your side of the aisle you act like you want truth, but continue to get facts from sources that have been proven to lie about Trump, or at the least, are heavily biased against him.
You may be well spoken and have correct grammar and spelling every time, but the liberal in you shows right through.

BTW, here's some simple truth photos of Trump's inauguration.

As to my political persuasions, I guess I'm a libertarian at heart ... fiscally conservative and socially liberal.
What I have a great deal of trouble with is the character of the man and the motives that seem to drive his decision-making. The decided lack of civility, propensity for lying, and seeming disregard for any governmental entity that disagrees with his notions (I'm thinking the intelligence community and the FBI) is what I strenuously object to.
I was brought up with the concepts that "a man's word was his bond", and deals were honored with a handshake that was as binding as any agreement. That is in stark contrast with the situation in politics as it is currently practiced.
I would prefer that our president could be trusted to be civil and treat others with respect, to honor his promises, tell the truth in all instances, be transparent in the reasons for his decisions and above all, be an honorable person. My personal opinion is that he fails in all five aspects. While I respect the office of the President, I cannot conscientiously respect the man holding the position.

when someone lies about you over and over for more than 2 years . would you stay civil ? I don't think I could . it has now been proven that the collusion was just a character assassination on the President . the President , may not be "politically correct , but this is why so many Americans , like him . he says what is real not something unreal . trust ? show me a politician who hasn't lied at times . obumer , lied coutless number of times . but he was a bimbocrat , and I guess as time has shown . bimbocratic politicians can do any thing and that's ok . but let a repub. do something a dem. does and everything hits the fan . the dems. do everything to cover it up or sweep it under the rug to stay in control . this is what the last 2+ years have been all about . slander . to manipulate the American , public into believing that President Trump is compromised . a agent of a foreign power . unlike biden , taking his son to China while supposedly there to be a hard liner on China , expanding their land mass out in the China sea . then went pretty soft with them . while his son was over there talking with investors to create a sweet deal making Billions of dollars in contracts . the same thing happened in the Ukraine . sweet heart deal his son made for biden being soft on a country that he should of been a hard liner . and the biden family is getting billions of dollars but again . them are bimbocrats . talk about being in a conflict of interest . then this compromised person to even run as a presidential candidate ? you dem. followers seem to be braindead puppets .
