That's when comedians could really make you laugh and they were funny not like the comedians of today that do nothing but use four letter words and think they are funny those guys were funny.

Yeah, he took “rude “ to the level of hilarity.

The two Dons, Rickles and Adams together were beyond funny.

It was Rickles' dump on Sinatra that really got his career going. Rickles was appearing at a small club in LA in 1957 when Frank walked in with his bodyguards in tow. Rickles saw him and said, Frank, sit down, make yourself at home, hit somebody.
Everyone was asking does this guy know what he's doing? The is Frank Sinatra, the Mafia. He's going to wind up with his legs broken. Instead, Frank was laughing his head off. The worse Rickles got, the more Sinatra laughed.
Sinatra went & got the rest of The Rat Pack, including Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop at that time, and they all got a stage side table and Rickles started in on each of them. He was brutal with them.
When he was in his heyday, Frank had a competitor named Dick Haymes. Haymes took over for Sinatra when he left Harry James band for Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. I was the youngest in my family and listened to all my parents' and older brothers' and sister's 78s' I always liked Dick Haymes' singing better & so did a lot of other people. My father-in-law was an ultimate Sinatra fan but always conceded that Haymes was a very good singer.
Don Rickles never let Sinatra forget about Dick Haymes. He'd often say to him he was going to buy him an album by Dick Haymes so that he 'could listen to a real singer' and 'eat your heart out.'

The Dean Martin celebrity roasts were classic. If you watch what passes for a celebrity roast today, be prepared to have your ears assaulted with extremely vulgar un-funniness. One of my favorite guys on those old roasts was Red Buttons...
Same Sinatra roast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-0RS080wpcSome other semi-regulars that deserve kudos were Charlie Callas and Foster Brooks

I’ve watched plenty of those old roasts. Great fun.
