In that case, my apologies. My cultural experience has seen this word used as a slur against black folks, and that is the way in which I assumed you were intending it. I stand corrected and thank you for pointing that out.

Why is it acceptable to use "white" in referring to certain behavior but not "black?" For every 1,000,000 reference to white racism one might hear only one comment directed at black racism. We're supposed to be sensitized to understanding and tolerating black racism. Why is it that practically all races and nationalities have been enslaved but American Blacks are the only people who can't move past it? I know the answer.

The answer, I believe, goes to the way the problem was presented by President Lyndon Johnson when he declared war on poverty. The message went out that the poor were unable to extricate themselves from their plight. In a speech at Howard University in 1965, LBJ told black students they were the victims of society's oppression and racism and that the government was responsible to rescue them.
LBJ, his compatriots in Congress, and the socially conscious elites who championed the war on poverty, were well intentioned. They really believed that institutional programs would solve poverty. As long as anyone thinks they're victims, they will never get up and make something of themselves. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, they make them. They're not victims but that's exactly what the Great Society created.
