I had upset my daughter about something so she said," You don't act like a friend." To which, I promptly replied, "I'm not your friend, I'm your parent."

It too often appears that parents, today, want to be a 'buddy.'

My response to your response to your daughter is..

Right on! Glad the tip was free! Ever here about blood and a turnip? That would be close to me. :-P :-P Thank you. Yes can be fun, and some DON"T have a sense of humor for sure. Oh I expect I'll be around a while longer, but probably a bit less as weather is getting better!

To answer your question, no, I don't believe I have.

You cannot get blood from a turnip.

Excellent post! I now know the reason for my mother's concern that her grandsons, "dress for success." and therefore the reason that she and my Dad worked hard to make sure that my siblings and I were always "presentable" as they would tell me often, people judge others before the first hello by how they look and then by the company they keep.

Thank you!

No, thank you, J. Not to get off topic BUT, I read somewhere that the whole process takes an average of five seconds, it's part of the "fight or flight response system. I also read that a woman knows if she will sleep with you or not, in half that time.

Sorry, what offer are you declining? Please tell me how your response has anything to do with what I said. How does dressing for success have anything to do with flight or fight? How does keeping the right company have to do with sleeping with a woman. Just color me CONFUSED!

I am so confused. I agreed with him. He declines an offer...but, I made no offer....and I talked about dressing for success and the importance.... Explain, if you can. What am I missing????

I thoroughly agree. I have no arguments whatsoever at the school's discriminating taste. 12 years of private school eventually soaked in about their standards being really instructions as to the way of a good life; I honestly feel today that not only would I have not survived a public education, my innate propensities would have had me seriously lost early in life.

Tell a young child that spinach and not crossing the Big Street and going to bed early is in their best interest and you may get a convincing but fallacious argument from them. Love a child with the necessary discipline, care, and attention, and they will trust your judgment. It may not be thoroughly convincing (really? this ugly green and slimy stuff is good) but they will at a level know it is out of love and listen. Not always, which does have a good side, but enough.

We do not want to be so authoritarian that we break a child's spirit and they lose the ability to think and act from their own worked-out values, but authoritative enough we breach their will to listen. But each child is decidedly different and we need as much help, awareness, and spirit as parents to see this fact. Study is needed as well as an open mind. Out of my four siblings, I seemed adopted. I wasn't and no hanky-panky yet I was the sole introvert and not nearly as bright as the others. My parents were not very discriminating in style but resolute in giving us the best in all things. Even-handed is the term. And today I can see that being a parent is not only the best and hardest job on the planet, deserving more than any CEO of the biggest corporation, but the most delicate as well.
I thoroughly agree. I have no arguments whatsoever... (show quote)

"rumi", I almost always have to read your posts more than three times before it sinks in, it's always been this way. I've not done that yet. Its weird, just the other day, which was probably a couple of weeks ago, I read one of you posts and I got it on the first try. I believe I may have commented. I'm going to give this one another try, but thank you for agreeing with me.... I think.

You said thank you at the end of your post and the response no(Iwould) thank you made perfect sense after Ireread it all a couple of times. Then it alters the topic to include other snap decisions.

Let me see. I agreed with you and added my personal experiences with my parents and my in-laws. I said thank you again at the end because you made a great point.

So you come back and decline the appreciation or what I learned from my folks.

And now you say that I altered the topic and included snap decisions.

Do I have it right?

If so, I am at lost of how to respond. So, I will just say your reply is appreciated.

lol, I can almost guarantee you the problem is my love of hearing my own voice; the less understandable, the more I need to talk.

When I was in grade school the only children in our neighborhood who wore uniforms were the ones who attended Catholic school. I don't recall thinking they were any smarter than the rest of us. However, I do remember feeling some pity for them, knowing they were far more regimented, and far more likely to be abused with corporal punishment. Nothing like being taught by a repressed celibate cranky middle aged woman.[/quote]

Mr. Devoted and I quote;

Really Brian, all catholic school teachers that were in your area at that time, were as you just described? I see the word "abuse" used there, is there something you're trying to tell us?

What is it with you, and well... anything Catholic? It seems any chance you get to throw a dig at it/them, you can't resist, like a "crack head" looking for anything to use as a pipe. It really takes away from your posts.
