I switched to Republican in 1958 from reading Barry Goldwater's syndicated column in my local news paper and remained loyal for 30 years by closing my eyes at the bad stuff and cherry picking what I was led to believe was the good, By 1988 It was clear there was no good and that party was being taken over by the crazies liberals had been purged and they were working on the moderates But the Democrats had moved to the right also. The new deal coalition had been killed off by the early 1970's
nickolai. Although I'm a traditional Republican in the Lincoln-grant- Harding- Coolidge -Eisrnhower-Reagan mold, I'm not "deep state".
I've voted for several Republicans who didn't impress me,it they were better than Carter-Clinton-Obama. Of course much better than McGovern, Dukakis- Hillary- Gore.
