If an individual has been a liberal most all their life; however, moves to a conservative position, does the size of their amygdala change with the change of their political positions? If the amygdala determines "fearful"ness, one would think, based on the "study", it will change. :?:

Sorry for not replying to you sooner. I don't get many serious question. I don't know of any research on that particular question, but there is compelling evidence that if you learn something new like a new language, a musical instrument, it does change the structure of the brain. I think it would change parts of the brain and other behaviors if a person changed political beliefs that dramatically. However, that is only my opinion and not a fact. If you are really serious, I can tell you where and how you could find out what is known about that issue. A good place to start might me, Train Your mind, Change Your Brain by Sharon Begley. It is a pocket book and a very interesting read.

As you know, I can be perverse. :-o

To me the most interesting study would be on someone like me. Every single political survey I have taken shows me to be quad political. There are M A N Y individuals who do not align to one single platform. To be unkind, it is unlikely to ever happen. It does not work for the meme. All studies are required to prove the meme of whichever group is conducting the study. Cynical? Absolutely! True? Without a doubt!

Did you yet do the research on the total class act?

Thank goodness you replied to Ms. AuntiE. I wanted to, but she scares me! I might use the wrong word, misspell something..... Just joking.

Anyway, you are absolutely correct. The Amygdala can grow with the introduction of new material. It can also be shrunk. And because it is more than just a small part of the brain, portions of it can be trained or retrained. Ergo, the response to Ms. AuntiE is yes with retraining, as you can train yourself to not react to negative words or actions it will cause the frontal portion of the Amygdala to grow and the anterior portion, responsible for negative feelings or actions will actually shrink. Better yet, here is a link that explains what I am trying to say but having problems with selection of words. As I said, she scares me and I do not want to be on her bad side.

Yea! I just told this to another group of people, so if you have already read it...sorry! But, as a kid my pappy told me "You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands. For instance, if they are around your throat then she's probably slightly upset." I suspect, from reading some of your posts, that I would much rather be on your good side!
 :-)

Just quick, how are you? I did not see a PM from you. Hope you are doing good and feeling well. (that was a nod to AuntiE, who taught me the difference.)

You'll get no argument from me. "Logic" would dictate that. Then Glaucon isn't logical. Ever notice how much he vacillates?

What a bunch of hogwash. I am a conservative in that I want to preserve those things I believe are good, but I am a liberal in wanting to change what I believe is bad. Sorry that is probably to general in terms. To go on, I am a believer in Jesus Christ as my Saviour and know through hi s word that he is in complete control of world events. I love him and I know he loves me. "Perfect love casteth out all fear".

Yes! Thank you!

The more "family" we have here, the better...with Christ in the center.

You know what they say about family, a family is like brownies most are sweet and all have a few nuts tossed in for variety.
