I don't know, the "Libertarians" I have encountered have all been very radical, I just checked and it would seem that you would be correct, at least according to the research I just did, my earlier comments were based on the "Libertarian" individuals I have encountered in the past and their view points.
If we were to include ALL current active parties, there would be four, there actually is a party calling themselves the Independent party, they are far right leaning. To be honest, I don't see them "keeping them honest", just more political divide. two conservative parties, one liberal party and one right/left party, seems like side stacking to me. If we can't guarantee that we can always get a Republican into office, let's add more conservative/"left/right" parties to the mix so we have better odds of ALWAYS getting our way.
I would like to see more moderation personally, less left wing extremes, less right wing extremes, more centerline politics. basically, government for ALL, not just one party or the other, let us govern for EVERY citizen's benefit.

Libertarians can be all over the place. A lot of people - from what I've seen - call themselves libertarian but they aren't really.
The democrat party during JFK's time is more the democrat party I'm envisioning. More toward the center. The republicans also used to be more toward the center.
Today's republicans aren't really true conservatives just as todays democrats aren't true liberals. If they were we'd be better off. A libertarian/conservative mix would be more toward the middle. Or just call them moderates as most people don't fully buy into their party's entire platform anyway.
The current system has each party putting themselves first over what's best for the country. That won't change and will only get worse. The "us vs them" mindset is only getting worse as well. The fault doesn't lie solely with either party - both shoulder the blame.
