Those are the observant words of lindajoy on the thread about an apology to Canuskus Deplorus by TommyRadd and CD's response. Plus all those others that commented. A coming together of different factions. Perhaps the tide has turned at OPP. Personally, I have seen more threads recently actually discussing issues than attacking others. CD has been a good part of that. And so have those who posted on his threads.
I have been here a long time and there is a notable change. But I may not be the best voice to make this observation. However, making note of what I see as progress towards OPP moving now to possibly be a widespread and respectable place to come to be cited by the public and the press for honest, open, and civil discourse, can be achieved. We can be a difference maker.
There are those here that outwardly reject, as a seeming matter of principle, being civil. Also, the idea of compromise or conceding a point seems a betrayal. Maintain the entrenched and divisive stance...or be overrun. That is the basic strategy. It is impossible to prove this wrong--and that means immense courage and sacrifice to do what is best for our country, for that strategy is killing us. The courage and sacrifice? Listen. Listen even though you want the poster to burn in everlasting fire twice. Oh, and drop the insults. Oh, and do not tolerate them from your side of the aisle.
Now I will most likely get attacked for not being the poster child of my comments, deflecting from the point of the thread and the possibilities of what we here could be to this nation and ourselves

I am on board and will do my best to help in trying to keep it civil in here.

Me too, CSM. Maybe ten or more years ago there was a group that tried to circulate and sign a petition in Congress to be civil, much like Grover Norquist's Tax Pledge, operating at the same time. One person signed it and the organization, a quasi-Christian group, had to abandon their efforts because of death threats and basic lack of interest. Death threats and lack of interest about being civil. Boggles the mind.
Might just be the solution.

I actually have noted a difference, and think it has a lot to do with cutting down of senseless personal attacks not germane to the discussion, and perhaps a bit of not engaging if you don't have anything relevant to add. Conversations go completely south when an attack or irrelevant off topic rant ensues.
This country is in trouble, and people need to put their heads together and figure it out. We're in the middle of regime change, and the only way the minority is going to have any say is to start saying intelligent things. If they can't engage then they will have no say except to try to take government by force, and that will not go well for anyone.
I laugh at things the right and Trump says everyday, life is boring if you can't laugh.
My wife gets pissed off at me when I say this is some seriously entertaining chit right here. She wants to know how I can laugh, I tell her I'd be crying if I don't. We are seeing irreversible damage being done to so many aspects of our country and government.
