If you study the history of the Pacific Ocean campaign against the Japanees you would find the Marines ALWAYS was the ones that hit the beach first and took the island target then they were relieved by the Army to occupy.
No disgrace to the Army intended. This policy was repeated island after island because of the successful outcome.
🇺🇸 God bless America's military.
Agreed, the Marines were extremely successful in the Pacific theater. However, the Army had its share of successful invasions, North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, and the biggest one, Normandy. And the Navy and the Army Air Corps supported them all. I also seem to remember the Army being involved in the Philippines invasions as well as additional Pacific theater actions. God bless America's military indeed!
