You have posted 205 comments on various threads, many of them are excellent and some are exceptional. You appear to be well educated, articulate, and civil. Why would you want to destroy all the positive impressions by posting something so uncharacteristically cynical? Just asking.
Duckie,

Which of my posts do you think was cynical?

Mr Glaucon,

That post was intended for Boofhead. Sorry, did I inadvertently hit your name instead. My apologies.

Peering inside the brain with MRI scans, researchers at University College London found that self-described conservative students had a larger amygdala than liberals. The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure deep in the brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. Liberals had more gray matter at least in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region of the brain that helps people cope with complexity.

There is a big unknown underlying these findings. Supposing that the size of one's amygdala really does increase the likelihood of being a conservative. Is the size of the amygdala determined at birth, or does it perhaps increase with frightening childhood experiences, such as authoritarian parenting and corporal punishment?

Most societies are divided into a party that wants change (the more liberal party) and one that is afraid of change (the conservatives). The liberal party is generally more intellectual and the conservative party is more anti-intellectual.

The conservative party is big on national defense and magnifies our perception of threat, whether of foreign aggressors, immigrants, terrorists, or invading ideologies like Communism. To a conservative, the world really is a frightening place.

How large was the test group? You certainly presented a lot of generalized statements. Define intellectual and anti-intellectual with specificity to this study.

History proves without the slightest doubt that the world changes with breathtaking speed. To make light of this fact is abjectly stupid. Indulge in all the poo-pooing you want. I take nothing for granted.

antiE,
I see you are still angry at me.
This and supportive research is available on your search engine. If you have trouble finding it, let me know and I will give you some web sites.

This research yielded generalized results that are in agreement with every study I am familiar with. The finding was that people who identified themselves as conservative had significantly differences in the structure of a part of the brain that made them more sensitive to threat, have less tolerance of ambiguity, and some other things.

An anti intellectual would tend to believe scientific discoveries that supported their opinions and biases and dismiss those that refuted them. They would accept or reject opinions of others depending on the person rather than the content of the assertions. Anti scientific thinking would be more controlled by unconscious biases and defenses of those biases.

I am not angry with you at all, nor do you have sufficient importance to raise my anger. Now, if you were the Mercer College Basketball coach or team, anger would be VERY prevalent. I find it, frankly, amusing you have taken up JonHatfield's name for me, antiE. It seems to come out only when I ask questions.

I asked the questions because there were no specifics, only the end results presented as generalizations.

".......every study I am familiar with." "They would accept or reject opinions of others depending on the person rather than the content of the assertions."

Take those two quotes and can you tell me you have studied other "study" that may not agree with what your wishes on the matter are?

Nor did I and was accused of being angry when I asked questions.

As with me, you will be directed to go seek out the studies, and if unable to find it, assistance will be provided. Of course, a valid link could have been provided. This is the second time a forum on this topic has been put forth. It is a very, supposedly, subtle manner of putting "conservatives" in a pigeon hole and, again supposedly, on the defensive for their positions. Do keep in mind "conservatives" are anti intellectual and anti science. I could continue with a list of all the other things "conservatives" are; however, boredom has set in on the list.

This type of study is very one dimensional therefore I cannot give much merit to. Human beings a very complex, and such generalizations cause much more harm than they are even worth. As I have seen similar studies from the perspective of the conservative side too.

One can notice they are one sided and focus on the negative, again not helpful. If these studies had any merit they would balance it with some positive conclusions. For instance maybe the enlarged amygdala may be the reason for great athletes? or hero's? These studies are like making a sunday and forgetting about the chocolate syrup :? Incomplete

At this time there is no explanation of how these people manage to have even the limited existence in society they seem to have. It was suggested that just like their leaders, they operate only on implanted suggestions and if not regularly updated through programming, will revert to Zombie status, staggering around mumbling "Other people's Money!" and trying to attack people who are actually productive.
