In my wilder days when I was young---I met a mountain girl and had some fun----She said her pa would shoot me so I run---But her brothers came and got me with a gun----Now I'm up here in the hills as you can see---providin' for a wife and family------Ma's at bible study every night---the kids are in the woodshed drinkin' wine----Pa's out runnin' coon dawgs in the hills----and Ol' one eyed uncle Marvin runs the still.---I don't know how I put up with this life---Shoulda settled down and never found a wife--- I'd like to escape but there's no way--Cause the kinfolks know my boss and take my pay---- Ma's at bible study every night---the kids are in the woodshed drinkin' wine----Pa's out runnin' coon dawgs in the hills and Ol' one eyed uncle Marvin runs the still.

Here's a good recipe--Get you a clean plastic 5 gallon bucket with a lid and a screw cap on top. Dump 4" of horse feed like Manna hi pro evenly on the bottom. Fill the bucket halfway with room tempature water. Stir in 8 lbs. of sugar then add 4 packages of yeast. Fill the bucket within an inch of the top and snap the lid back on. loosen the screw cap so air can escape. Stow the bucket in a warm dark place and let it set for 12 days. Then run it. Should be around 140 proof and maybe stronger.

Grandpaws secret corn squeezing isn't secret anymore. We grow our own corn, buy oats and some horse feed. I don't know about the contents of the horse feed.
The men use the old abandon log barn away from the other buildings. They have a lot of 30 gallon metal drums to ferment their mixture or mash in.
They use spring water and cheesecloth to cover the drums with to keep insects out. When they cook off the mash the steam is run through copper tubing and condense into a 180 proof liquor.
They then "cut it" with tea, coke and other liquids to make it 90 proof. It seldom us allowed to age more than a week. I am not sure how much their permit allows them to make legally.
I do not partake of any alcoholic drinks so I can not comment on the taste. The men and others claim it is better than "Jack Daniels."

My ex-military also agree with you. Especially on friday nights and Saturdays and holidays. They never seem to have hangovers either.
I am having a meeting today with a retired Marine chaplin who wants permission to open a nondenomination church here on the tree farm. He wants no pay as he has his retirement check to live on.
I think a couple of my employees asked him to discuss it with me. I agree we could have services in the large warehouse we use for community gatherings until a resl church could be built.
We already hsve a building with 200 mailboxes like a post office anyway. Several of the men have suggested opening a small store here. I have a repair shop for our trucks and other equipment with a master diesel mechanic ex-army tank expert and he is teaching a younger man to help him.
All our equipment runs on diesel so we have a 5,000 gallon storage tank. No gasoline so we have to drive my limousine about 10 miles to fill it up but keep 10 gallons spare at the farm.
Next I guess we will end up having a small town here. I have enough on my plate now and I dont need any more things to worry about.
Thank God I have the Sgt. Major to depend on.
