"The Buck Stops Here" Desk Sign
Buck Stops Here signThe sign "The Buck Stops Here" that was on President Truman's desk in his White House office was made in the Federal Reformatory at El Reno, Oklahoma. Fred A. Canfil, then United States Marshal for the Western District of Missouri and a friend of Mr. Truman, saw a similar sign while visiting the Reformatory and asked the Warden if a sign like it could be made for President Truman. The sign was made and mailed to the President on October 2, 1945.

Approximately 2-1/2" x 13" in size and mounted on walnut base, the painted glass sign has the words "I'm From Missouri" on the reverse side. It appeared at different times on his desk until late in his administration.

The saying "the buck stops here" derives from the slang expression "pass the buck" which means passing the responsibility on to someone else. The latter expression is said to have originated with the game of poker, in which a marker or counter, frequently in frontier days a knife with a buckhorn handle, was used to indicate the person whose turn it was to deal. If the player did not wish to deal he could pass the responsibility by passing the "buck," as the counter came to be called, to the next player.*

On more than one occasion President Truman referred to the desk sign in public statements. For example, in an address at the National War College on December 19, 1952 Mr. Truman said, "You know, it's easy for the Monday morning quarterback to say what the coach should have done, after the game is over. But when the decision is up before you -- and on my desk I have a motto which says The Buck Stops Here' -- the decision has to be made." In his farewell address to the American people given in January 1953, President Truman referred to this concept very specifically in asserting that, "The President--whoever he is--has to decide. He can't pass the buck to anybody. No one else can do the deciding for him. That's his job.

The sign has been displayed at the Library since 1957.

Why don't you just say it like this that the Democratic party is a death cult and anybody who follows them is going to follow them to their death because that's exactly where they're going to lead them the far-left no longer cares about facts they care about feelings I think if they say things with feelings often enough that people are going to buy that as fact when all people have to do is simple research and then they get excoriated for calling them out on their lies see that's what I hate about Democrats are so smug thinking that they're smarter than everybody in the room when we know they're a bunch of liars and don't know anything about life because I don't know anything about life cuz they've never live life all they know is government that is their religion that is their only religion when they all want us to be servile to them I mean you had Hillary Clinton saying she wanted to put conservatives into reeducation camps like freaking Red Dawn I got news for her Wolverines yeah! I guess they haven't thought this through you know what's really funny is that they think we're stupid to sit here and believe everything that they tell us and then when they get caught in their lies they want to backtrack and act like they didn't say it well I didn't mean it that way or whatever they can try to pettifog the issue all they want to but the fact of the matter is is that the Democratic party is a death cult can I hope President Trump is the death knell to the Democratic party once and for all we can finally get rid of all these bigots all these so-called closet clan members which is exactly what has happened in the Democratic Party they went from being the party of the KKK to hey won't you put up the white robe in hoods for a suit and tie and become a politician that's exactly what they've done the Dixiecrats who went underground and became politicians cuz they're going to be Democrats until they die they even said so when all the southerners started voting for the Republicans after segregation and civil rights in the 70s and wasn't it Hillary Clinton that had a picture with her Mentor Senator Robert Byrd who was the Grand Dragon and a grand cyclops in the clan hello tell you right there all you need to know about the Democratic Party it's kind of funny that they paint the Republicans is racist you know that's right out of Overton's window if you've never read that book it gets into the mind of the people of the left they actually try to flip things around to where they're going to blame their opponents for the exact same thing they're doing and if you go with this analogy you'll never be fooled and their world what's Up Is Down and what's down is up meaning right now what is up is illegal aliens and what is down is America and Americans but they're going to try to sit there and tell you all day they're not part of the open borders Society well they're not part of the open borders decided then why won't they give Trump the 5.7 billion dollars that he needs to build the wall G let me see here who could be at play on this number one would be La Raza number two would be George Soros and any other number of his so-called Pacs that he has
