This is nothing new, but Sen Joni Ernst has a bill I could easily support. She explains, "I do have a bill … it is no budget, no recess, and it would force members of Congress to stay in Washington, D.C., until we have a budget done and until we have those appropriations bills done," Ernst said.

“And if that weren’t so if Congress failed to get the budget done, there would be quorum calls requiring our members to be on the floor twice a day till we work through the impasse,” she added.

Pardon me, Penny, but because this is a thread on Joni Ernst, I post this story heretofore unknown to me...although I knew her name had been mentioned in President Trump's search for V.P.

Sounds good to me. Go for it, make them earn their pay and stay in Washington.

Sure can. Would love to see all Senators go on record with their vote for this bill. Think Mitch will bring it up?

This left wing socialist democrat agrees with her bill....however, I still don’t agree with her politics.

He might! What I would like to see is all their pay withheld and not returned whenever a government shut down occurs.

So far our Congress, like 1st graders, excel only in the subject of - recess.

They are slowly kicking all their responsibilities off onto other departments. They are responsible for coining our money and passing a budget. They are also infringing on the Bill of Rights. The far left and the Rinos serve the same masters and it isn't "we the people". Pretty soon we will pay them for doing nothing they are supposed to do, according to the Constitution. National Security is just the one they decided not to do today.

Great bill. Senator Joni Ernst and congressman Dan Crenshaw from Texas, are on the same page. Both are combat veterans. Ex- SEAL Crenshaw has proposed that no members of congress get paid during the shutdown. And he's followed it up with refusing to accept his paycheck during the shutdown. Imagine that, not only would members of congress have to remain session, be allowed no recess but they'd also forfeit their pay. I'm thinking we'd have finding for the wall in short order.

Could you imagine.... elected officials in DC actually doing the work they were sent there to do.... that would be novel... a budget getting passed in September rather than emergency continuation bills that fund for a few months to rinse and repeat. We spend so much time negotiating continuation bills that no time is spent on running the nation.
I can definitely stand with Joni and Dan... I hope this gets passed!

congress should stay in session 24 hours a day with no pay till they solve this

That would be counterproductive. Humans loose ability to think clearly and work on complicated issues if they are forced to work beyond 12 hours a day.
