It helps if masses of oil shale is found under your state. And Louisiana gets a boost from it's oil industry.
Nor does is seem party affiliation works on what states have high unemployment.
Arkansas (R), Rhode Island (D), Kentucky(R), Arizona (R), Mississippi (R) Michigan(D) and California (D) all have unemployment rates above the national average.
Those who are to blinded by partisanship can't seem to see the forest for the trees. Government has something to do with business growth and failure. But there are a dozen other influences-a particular key industry in a state are in a slump, aging infrastructure, changing trends in business (such as the rise of shale oil in ND, SD), older, inefficient plants closing, and so on.
But continue to see it through partisan eyes if you wish. Just be prepared to have holes punched in your partisanship.
