I was reading a post election column by Caroline Glick in which she noted that most of the anti-Trump Republicans were voted out or have now retired, including those in the Senate, her theory being that henceforth President Trump will enjoy more Republican support and less obstruction, ala the late John McCain, from his own party.

I hope that is true... He certainly can't expect it from the Democrats in congress...

Although I have always held John McCain in high regard and hope he has received his due rewards in the next life...

Jim Jordan is the only republican I trust.
All others must prove themselves. So far, they are all cowards to a man. Each one, no exceptions. Including all, even the ones who piss off the lefties. All cowards.

The United States government is currently in a shutdown because President Donald Trump wants to build a wall — a “big, beautiful wall” along the United States’ border with Mexico. But a viral video posted by Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Tex.) illustrates exactly why Trump’s beloved wall is completely unfeasible.

First of all, if you’re going to build a wall along the Mexican border, that means building it alongside the Rio Grande, America’s fourth longest river which, as Think Progress points out, has been flooding more frequently and with increasing severity. So if the government can’t build the wall right along the river, that would mean it would have to use eminent domain to seize land from Americans who currently own land where Trump wants to put the wall. As an article in the libertarian publication Reason noted, most of the land along the border is owned by private citizens, Native American tribes, and the state of Texas.

Furthermore, O’Rourke’s video points out, building a wall would create hundreds of thousands of acres of a “no man’s land” between the river and the wall. It would also destroy important wildlife corridors and federally-preserved lands.

The video also mentions that since 2007, most undocumented immigration is occurring because people are overstaying their visas, not because they are crossing the border illegally. Therefore, a wall would do little to deter this type of immigration.

But, of course, none of the reasons outlined above will stop President Trump from holding the government — and the paychecks of 800,000 federal workers — hostage while he demands funding for his pet project.

Why cannot you Trump haters understand it Isn't Trumps wall, it is the USA citizens' demand for a proper obstruction on our southern border to help stop the invasion of uninvited and unwanted illegal aliens and fake lying asylees jyst using, abusing and exploiting our country and us. It is OUR wall, something we have been pleading for for years, only to have our own so-called leaders/government constantly REFUSE to do ANYTHING to protect us, but EVERYTHING to help these foreign invaders.

Another point.... We do have foreigners who overstay their VISAs that our government does NOTHING about. BUT, we get about 30,000-50,000 (ones caught) illegal aliens entering our country EVERY month, which is far, far more than students, etc, overstaying Visas. And maybe you should read about the views of the ranchers, etc, living along the border and the stories they tell about their lands being ruined/trashed, their livestock killed, the terrors they live with daily. And I, for one, consider human lives more important than the lives of birds, etc, that will continue to live on one side or the other of the border, as they already do. Giving up a half mile wide strip of land right on the border to protect oneself and ones country Isn't asking much.

The wall is not silly if not a wall how do you stop them ? Shoot them ? Whats needed is a wall And DNA from All who wish to visit America this ways when they over stay their Visa's and those who ask for asylum never show up for court we have the DNA to identify them When blood is drawn in lets say a Hospital for the flu or in a police case of drunk driving Or Rape, pedophilia, incest, or just a Job interview SEE ? Micro chips would work. They are inexpensive and can pinpoint the exact location of a person (and even pets). It could be programmed to send a signal to ICE if someone misses their immigration hearings, if they are involved in an accident or arrested. Some countries in Europe is going this direction to control their infestations. If they refuse the chip... then they can stay in their own home.

Border Patrol actually used ankle bracelets for a while to track those for court appearances, but that cost seems prohibitive now.

Ankle bracelets can and are removed... This happened in 2016, somewhat dated, but it shows how useless ankle bracelets can be. "Quincy Green was arrested on a gun charge in April, he was supposed to be on house arrest while waiting for his trial. But a tech at the company that supplies and fits ankle bracelets on pre-trial detainees in Washington, DC, put the bracelet on a prosthetic leg. So, police say, Green simply took off the leg, replaced it with another one he had, and was able to leave his house. That's how he was able to go to an area that Fox 5 DC reports he had specifically been ordered to stay away from and where he allegedly shot and killed Dana Hamilton around 2:40am on May 19."

A microchip is not easy to remove and it would allow tracking of trespassers who swim, crawl, tunnel, or rush the border. Also, removal could be programmed into the unit to alert ICE of tampering. I think the cost of said chip should be billed to their country of origin... neatly deducted from any aid, support, or payment given to that nation.

Where would those animals go, most animals don't cross a river unless they have no other place to go. So what is the problem with a fence. I have one question for you and O"Rourke. There has been an average of 33,333 illegal border crossers each month in 2018. Has there been that amount or larger of people overstaying their visas? If not, then he is mistaken about his figure's. It is the Democrats that are holding the federal workers hostage. Simply because they have approved a wall before but since Trump wants the wall/fence they are denying the American taxpayer their right to a secure border or lets say a near secure border.

Trump said he'd be honored to "own" the shutdown. Really the only reason Trump is throwing hissy fits over the stupid wall is that he promised it, and it will be a lasting monument TO HIMSELF; and that is all. He doesn't care squat about illegals; hell, until the big hullabaloo, all his golf course and resort help were immigrants to whom he paid peanuts, if that. Do you really think Trump would put up with paying all those people $15/hour? No way in hell.

Where is your source for your claim, or is this just your opinion?

Second, if you are honest, Democrats only care about "immigrants", documented or not, because they need the votes. If their votes did not count, they would be bitting at the bit to have that wall funded and completed to earn US Citizen votes. Immigrants, illegal and legal, vote Democrat every election.

Third, many companies hire immigrants--it is actually law, preferential treatment for hiring is based on ethnicity (Native American, Hispanic, black)... go to the head of the line, and if companies do not hire their quota, they get sued. So, companies forced to hire minorities must trust, as I believe that President Trump did when he still owned companies, his human resource office would appropriately vet any individual seeking employment. I assure you, when I was still the owner of my business... not only did I not personally vet any individual, there were times that I never personally met them. So... what are you trying to say? Should he, as a private citizen, have had to do more to ensure only US citizens were hired, more than what I did or thousands of companies still do?

One more thing... I read that those illegals hired by TRUMP CO., actually had stolen Social Security Cards and fake IDs.... interesting.

I read the same thing concerning the illegal workers hiref by TRUMP CO. ...
I recall a recent story where as the interviewee (an illegal) not only admitted to supplying false papers to attain employment (at a Trump resort) but described Trump as a generous employer...
She then went on to attack him (Trump) for his hostile policies towards individuals (criminals) such as herself...

It is a fact that many businesses take shortcuts and bend rules in their quests to turn a profit...
Vetting is a complicated process that does rely largely on the honesty of the applicant and the 'validity' of the provided documents...

The true victims are those who loose out on the job opportunities taken (stolen) by unscrupulous individuals who have no legal right to said jobs...
