Natasha--what is trump doing about it? remember, trump is in charge, not the media.

trumpsters say we are going to save so much money with the wall preventing the "invaders" from medical, schooling, welfare, etc: So what is trump doing about those 700,000 kids in America who you say are now going hungry, PR?
(And who is going to milk the cows on Devin Nunes' dairy in Iowa? We will have to give the Nunes dairy even more subsidies if there are no 'illegals' to do the scut work). The unintended consequences of the Trump Wall have not been anticipated. Any russian ought to know into whose pockets the 'savings' will go--the same place the tax reform money went.

Do any of you trolls read, or just want to bitch? There is no where near 700,000 homeless children in the US.

564,708 people in the U.S. are homeless. According to a recent report, over half a million people were living on the streets, in cars, in homeless shelters, or in subsidized transitional housing during a one-night national survey last January. Of that number, 206,286 were people in families, 358,422 were individuals, and a quarter of the entire group were children.

http://www.socialsolutions.com/blog/2016-homelessness-statistics/

All Homeless People
• In January 2015, 564,708 people were
homeless on a given night. Most (69 percent)
were staying in residential programs for
homeless people, and 31 percent were found in
unsheltered locations.
• Nearly one-quarter of all homeless people
were children, under the age of 18 (23 percent
or 127,787). Nine percent (or 52,973) were
between the ages of 18 and 24, and 68 percent
(or 383,948) were 25 years or older.
• Homelessness declined by 2 percent (or 11,742
people) between 2014 and 2015

Would you be willing to bet on that? No place in your link does Appalachia even come into play. Nowhere.I've seen tent cities where hundreds if not thousands live, families with children along with veterans. It is not a pretty sight, but is all they have and know. Does anyone actually think these folks chose the circumstances they are in?
Nope they didn't! Worse yet when many do or venture out of camp to attempt to locate work to support family,
they get shunned by surrounding areas so in conclusion homelessness is very real.try to wrap your mind around this simple but pitiful truth. I dare ya!
None here could or would possibly understand without seeing it first hand.

Here is one of the best articles I have read about homelessness and they do not cite 700.000 adults, families or children as being homeless. Could an overstatement of the problem be justification for someones' jobs?

http://mic.com/articles/83315/6-myths-and-1-truth-about-homelessness-in-the-united-states#.GOhAwygC5

Don't get me wrong...I am all for helping the poor, especially the homeless. But let's be honest about the situation.

Read on down in this article and it agrees with the numbers cited...

http://endhomelessness.org/homelessness-in-america/homelessness-statistics/state-of-homelessness-report/

What I don't understand are those, especially politicians that blame homelessness on being addicted, lazy or by choice and want to cut off funding that should help the homeless if it weren't for the incompetent bureaucracies and do-gooders.

while I can't dispute what you found online ,I can dispute how accurate it likely is.
kind of like trusting online tablature to Any given song as being as accurate as it can be? it just isn't. I should know having tried most all at some point or another. based on what was seen most lost their homes and jobs a few had businesses; to the recession in 08. when speaking to coordinators from United way they informed me both they did not understand what politicians or D.C. in general were doing or why and that these tent cities were peppered across the country, not just where was seen.the majority were white people that lost out big time.

incompetent is an understatement.these folks would take jobs most would not touch and be happy for it.
vets talked to sounded like most were still being ignored from conflicts past whom wound up in survival mode through no choice of their own.in short Uncle Sam dropped the ball. IMHO.

I made some calls to family back in the hills of Ky who in turn contacted some Amish friends that relayed they would be happy to help, many had and still have huge farms.wind up was several families came back with me to get housed and fed. to the best of my knowledge most if not all thrived.that was back in 06, today I simply don't know.there were Spanish in the camps second and third generation who's ancestors came in via Ellis island, those of color were genuine Americans from fields or farms that went under in 2008 and their once affluent employers also hit hard could no longer afford to keep them on. others were veterans that appeared to never quite make the adjustment back into civilization, again not their fault, not for lack of trying.
acceptance it seems was not in the cards or society as a whole at the time. That hurt. I blame both society and Washington pencil pushers, not withstanding politicians as a whole for not addressing the problem when it presented itself.
I lived in Ky For six years after being chased out by hurricanes Francis and Jean.not the finest time to be sure.except for the ability to hike and see what was seen. it still keeps me up at times if thought about which is why the topic grabbed my attention.first thought was wrong, wrong, wrong.nice work finding what you did even if inaccurate.

Yawn. Do you have any idea what it is to be homeless? Or how quickly and easily it can happen? Apparently not...

Does anybody care about the truth?
