This is a non-issue, since only a few of our other presidents since WWII ended have visited Normandy either, but it is a great opportunity for those with strongly held feelings to snap and snarl at each other. You can't deny that.

My view is that Obama is only a symptom of America's problems, not the cause of them. GWB was doing much the same thing, just on a lesser scale, and we've had earlier presidents who pushed socialist agendas, like Woodrow Wilson and FDR. American Negroes have been a major force in the Socialist Party and promoting socialism since the 1920's.

The election of a black socialist to the presidency had behind it an enormous political machine. Obama is one of those fortuitous circumstances, from the Liberal Left viewpoint, and his actions are obviously governed by others offstage in the wings.

Why can't you people accept that this is 2014 and government has a role in initiating programs like interstate highway system, Oak Ridge (now private corporation businesses), NASA (which will birth future industries), TVA, social security, healthcare system, back in 1860s the intercontinental railroad (needs to be rebuilt on high speed model)...etc. etc. Socialism? I don't agree with the "progressive" political stance, which I'm assuming is yours from your response, and if so, then we're very likely to remain at a point of disparity. The reason I don't agree with socialism is because of hindsight. It has never been successful over the long term. Socialism is really just another word for communism or Marxism, it's the spreading out of wealth from those who have it to those who don't. When done excessively, the incentive to become wealthy is sorely tempered, and in all human societies it is the wealthy who provide the vast majority of jobs.

When you take that away, then the government must be the major employer, and that means taxes must increase to pay them, and so on until the system collapses of it's own weight.

This is what happened to the USSR. China's avoided this so far by turning away from socialism to a great extent and embracing capitalism, which is only workable if a level of democracy is also allowed. Even so, China is still a dictatorship, and the real issue here is freedom. You have it best in a democracy, and at it's worst under a socialist dictatorship, and socialism requires dictatorial power to function at all.
