Nut jobs are nut jobs, and trying to tribalize the brand of nut job leads to excuses for retribution. Backing the side a nut job identifies with does not make you a murderer.
I'll tell you what does matter though as pertains to identity, it's the reaction and response to someone getting killed. Anyone on the left when Scalise got shot who said anything like "good, he was scum he deserved it" is a piece of crap. There are people who are worthless human beings on both sides who come out validating violence when it happens. I can pretty much assure you that there would be people saying good if Pelosi, Hillary, Obama, any number of villains were killed. Same if someone killed Trump or any number of his compadres. The mentality is despicable and leads towards an escalation of violence.
