I don't know about you, but I think that there is a message there. Guns hurt or kill people, that is what they are for. The Surgeon General is only doing his job, which is to make sure that everything is being done to lesson people getting hurt or killed by a gun.

Oh of course how silly of us; let us let the government control everything in our lives where we can get hurt, hurt someone else, wound, or otherwise hurt our fellow creatures:

Kitchen knives and other sharp pointed things: big time weapon there. All knives need to be turned over to the government
Stairs in houses. Accidents happen, and people get pushed down stairs. Government needs to ban all houses that have an upstairs or basement.
All farm equipment. Big scary stuff there. Big time, no play stuff. Government needs to take immediate control.
Bath tubs and showers. Accidents. Government needs to develop a fast steam shower and outlaw the flowing water that goes into these things. People fall and hurt themselves.
Cars, enough said there. People just can not be trusted driving. Ban the things!
Garages, tall cabinets in kitchens, flushing toilets, dishwashers, clothes washers & dryers, anything that makes a fire: matches, lighters, two sticks, flint stones. Anyplace you can see or experience a fire fireplaces, fire pits, bbq grills, stoves, candles. Anything that burns: petro, oil, brush cleaners, kerosene, linen, clothing. Ropes have to be done away with, then there are animals that can bite, dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, snakes, lizards.....
And then there are shopping carts, go carts, golf carts, .......... Hell, let us just put every citizen into a nice little bubble and have the government supply us with synthetic humans to make sure that we do not hurt ourselves. At the same time they can make sure we do not say any bad words. Everyone would be treated equally; they get their pill in the morning to wake up, a pill at lunch time so they do not eat too much, a pill in the afternoon so they do not feel much, and a pill at night time so they sleep. This will close the equality gap, intellectual gap, education gap, and any other gaps because we will not be aware of anything.

Now can you see that your comment is somewhat on the silly side????

Guns hurt or kill far less people than tobacco and alcohol. Why is it so easy to buy cigarettes and booze, when they are far more dangerous? Don't even get me started on most drugs.

My point was, do we really think that we can protect every one from all possible dangers? Or even, should we try to? People go mountain climbing and they fall, or are pushed, they get stranded... should the government ban this activity or tax it beyond the point where people just can not afford to climb? Then we do have to ban golf courses and golf clubs, the club is a weapon and also they are the number one cause of death by lightening strikes. Should we outlaw boating? There are a significant increase in boating accidents. The list goes on.....

This, really, is FASCINATING. When Obama was first elected and started appointing "czars", an apt word considering his communist bent, his initial choices for his cabinet were socialists and outspoken communists. But the most outstanding one was Kevin Jennings, a pedophile and vocal supporter of NAMBLA, the pedophilic No. American Man-Boy Love Assn., as SAFE SCHOOLS CZAR.

He had to get rid of a few of them over the outcry, including Jennings, and has been a bit more circumspect since then, but now he's throwing caution to the winds again as he sees his presidential power to destroy the United States coming to an end in two more years.

Murthy is unbalanced and will create enormous turmoil if Obama succeeds in appointing him, which is exactly why Obama wants him in place, of course. To do the maximum damage in the time he has left.

I'm not sure it's a mental deficiency, ginny. It's just habits.

Your husband was a lawman trained in the use of firearms and maybe raised in a family where firearm use and safety was taught. It's not surprising he kept his firearms safely stored and well maintained. They were the tools of his trade.

I was trained since age six to fire a .22, got my first shotgun at 12 and was drilled in firearm safety. We were taught to never pick up a firearm unless one was ready to use it and to never point a firearm at anything unless you were ready to shoot it. And eating what one killed was just a fact of life. We ate a lot of birds were shot, wrapped in riverbank clay and thrown into the coals of a hot fire. I suppose there's places where kids are still allowed to roam the forests with a rifle or shotgun , but no where around here.

The guy who left is pistol under the couch where his six year old found it was simply careless and ill trained. What he did seems supremely stupid, which is is, but that doesn't mean he was mentally challenged. As he lives out his days with the weight of what his carelessness caused on his shoulders, maybe now he's got mental problems.

I've often thought it would be good idea to require a intensive training for a permit to carry, or to even purchase a firearm. Put the NRA in charge of it. I had NRA training as a 12-year-old, a two-day course, and it was well done.

Some would cry that this was infringing on their Second Amendment rights, but a firearm is a deadly weapon. A little training never hurt anyone.
