It seems that the csx rail transportation is claiming it can
transport a one ton delivery of goods almost 500 miles using 1(one) gallon of fuel. has anyone bothered to verify this? knowing that a diesel engine weighs approx. 55 tons
just how probable is this? also, if true has anything been
expended to apply their (csx) device to our automotive
industry. seem like a boon to us uf true. I personally would very much enjoy even 400 mile per gallon.
I have wondered the same thing, but have not checked on their number so far. It is possible that they are telling the truth. Trains move immense loads and their engines are required to run steadily, unlike automobile engines which must accelerate frequently.
