For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. Even under the reign of a ruthless and godless emperor, Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells his readers to be in subjection to the government. Moreover, he states that no authority exists other than that established by God, and that rulers are serving God in their political office whether they know it or not.

The immigration debate has witnessed a parade of cases of selectively appealing to Scripture to support open borders and amnesty for immigrants who enter the country illegally. It is ironic that the political and religious left who normally eschew treating Jewish and Christian Scriptures as a source of authority when it comes to matters of public policy have suddenly dusted off their Bibles for the immigration debate.

It's not a question of supporting open borders but simply a question of why half of our nations Christian population cease to behave like Christians when it comes to the issue of foreign visitors in need of help from our country. Like Syrians and other Muslims who need a home after we, as in Obama's failure, is why they need a home today. Or families who are outcast from their homes because of the drug wars that happen in their country--drug wars that are occurring because of OUR use of drugs in our country--a use they are not responsible for but see danger to their family, a danger that once again the CC's in our nation have turned their backs on them

So this isn't about open borders but simply assuming the responsibility that we should assume because 1) we are partially, if not fully, responsible for why they are outcasts and 2) as a Christian nation that some, such as yourself, claim us to be...which begs the question of why you CC's refuse to trust that Christ will both lead and protect you from the danger you perceive them to be.

PeterS, you really don't understand what Christianity is all about, and how to be a good Christian. Here are some of the scriptures that Jesus Christ wants Christians to obey.

*Romans 13
Obey Your Government Rulers
13 All of you must obey the government rulers. Everyone who rules was given the power to rule by God. And all those who rule now were given that power by God. 2 So anyone who is against the government is really against something God has commanded. Those who are against the government bring punishment on themselves. 3 People who do right don’t have to fear the rulers. But those who do wrong must fear them. Do you want to be free from fearing them? Then do only what is right, and they will praise you
--------------
Now you liberals and democrats, you are doing everything to destroy president Trump who was duly elected by the American people. You dishonor and disobey president Trump, therefore you democrats belong to Lucifer.
-----------
**Law breakers are not Christians.
Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few finds it.

Democrats want wide open border where illegal aliens enter through without permission.
-----------------
**Illegals climbing up fences, and tunnels, and entering a country without permission are not Christians. The way to enter is through LEGAL IMMIGRATION, because you obey the laws of that land.

Other requirements of a Good Christian.
Follow the Ten Commandments of God.
Here they are:
1. “I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have any strange gods before Me.”
This commandment forbids idolatry, the worship of false gods and goddesses, and it excludes polytheism, the belief in many gods, insisting instead on monotheism, the belief in one God. This commandment forbids making golden calves, building temples to Isis, and worshiping statues of Caesar, for example.

2. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
The faithful are required to honor the name of God. It makes sense that if you’re to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, then you’re naturally to respect the name of God with equal passion and vigor.

3. “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.”
The Jewish celebration of Sabbath (Shabbat) begins at sundown on Friday evening and lasts until sundown on Saturday. Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christians go to church on Sunday, treating it as the Lord’s Day instead of Saturday to honor the day Christ rose from the dead.

4. “Honor thy father and mother.”
This commandment obliges the faithful to show respect for their parents — as children and adults. Children must obey their parents, and adults must respect and see to the care of their parents, when they become old and infirm.

5. “Thou shalt not kill.”
The better translation from the Hebrew would be “Thou shalt not murder” — a subtle distinction but an important one to the Church. Killing an innocent person is considered murder. Killing an unjust aggressor to preserve your own life is still killing, but it isn’t considered murder or immoral.

6. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
The sixth and ninth commandments honor human sexuality. This commandment forbids the actual, physical act of having immoral sexual activity, specifically adultery, which is sex with someone else’s spouse or a spouse cheating on their partner. This commandment also includes fornication, which is sex between unmarried people, prostitution, pornography, homosexual activity, masturbation, group sex, rape, incest, pedophilia, bestiality, and necrophilia.

7. “Thou shalt not steal.”
The seventh and tenth commandments focus on respecting and honoring the possessions of others. This commandment forbids the act of taking someone else’s property. The Catholic Church believes that this commandment also denounces cheating people of their money or property, depriving workers of their just wage, or not giving employers a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. Embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion, and vandalism are all considered extensions of violations of the Seventh Commandment.

8. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
The Eighth Commandment condemns lying. Because God is regarded as the author of all truth, the Church believes that humans are obligated to honor the truth. The most obvious way to fulfill this commandment is not to lie — intentionally deceive another by speaking a falsehood. So a good Catholic is who you want to buy a used car from.

9. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.”
The Ninth Commandment forbids the intentional desire and longing for immoral sexuality. To sin in the heart, Jesus says, is to lust after a woman or a man in your heart with the desire and will to have immoral sex with them. Just as human life is a gift from God and needs to be respected, defended, and protected, so, too, is human sexuality. Catholicism regards human sexuality as a divine gift, so it’s considered sacred in the proper context — marriage.

10. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.”
The Tenth Commandment forbids the wanting to or taking someone else’s property. Along with the Seventh Commandment, this commandment condemns theft and the feelings of envy, greed, and jealousy in reaction to what other people have.

**Democrats and liberals all violate these commandments of God.
**Democrat women love to abort and kill their babies over and over again, and want the taxpayers to pay for their baby killing.
-----------------
Other virtues required to be a good Christian are:

1. Faith, hope, and charity are called theological virtues because they are the most important characteristics in a Christian’s life, as Paul explains in Romans 5:1-5 and 1 Corinthians 13:13. They pertain (exclusively, in the case of faith and hope, and primarily, in the case of charity) to one’s relationship with God.

Faith is the grace of believing in God’s love for us and in his revealed truths (Lk 1:45, Jn 11:25-26, Eph 2:8). Hope is the grace of trusting God will be true to his promise to save us from eternal death if we turn to him in repentance (Rom 5:2, 8:25; Heb 6:17-20; 1 Pt 1:3-5). Charity is a two-fold grace with the primary effect of moving the will to love God fervently and above all things and with the secondary effect of intensifying love for our neighbor (Dt 6:4-6; Mt 22:36-40, 25:31-46; Mk 12:28-31; Rom 13:8-10; 1 Cor 13:1-13).

2. Moral virtues are so called because they help us live within the moral parameters set forth by the gospel. Chief among them are prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude, also known as cardinal virtues (derived from the Latin cardo, meaning hinge, because on them hinge all other moral virtues).

Prudence is the grace to form correct judgments (Mt 10:16; 1 Pt 4:7).
Justice assists us in dealing equitably with others (Prv 21:21; 1 Tm 6:11).
Temperance helps us subdue our sensual appetites and make proper use of God’s creatures (1 Cor 6:12, 10:23-24).
Fortitude helps us persevere despite temptations to sin and despair (Rom 8:32-35, Jas 5:10-11).

Other moral virtues required to be a good Christian are:
Humility (Mt 18:1-5) means humble
Patience (Heb 10:36-37), means forebearance
Obedience (Rom 13:1-7), means submission to authority
Chastity (1 Cor 6:15-20), means virginity
Piety (Eph 5:15-20), means reverence
Veracity (Eph 4:15, 25), means truthful
--------------
I believe you don't know any of those I mentioned above.

Not one among the democrats can be a Christian. Because democrats are all LIARS, CROOKS, DISHONESTS, FRAUDULENT, violent, criminals, rapists. They protect and defend the people who violate the laws. Here they are" Illegal aliens, drug dealers, drug addicts, MS13, ANTIFA, BML, democrat abortionist women.

Hillary Clinton, Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, Maxine Waters, Whoopi Goldberg, and that new ambitious dumb Ocasio-Cortez defend and protect all these people I mentioned. They can never be Christians, but agents of LUCIFER!

**Note. And if anyone who have have committed any of these sins, but repented in full, therefore you are forgiven by God. Not one among the democrats/liberals/socialists/ repented but even get more aggressive in violating all the commandments of God.

Now tell me, when a man or woman citizen of the U.S. commits a crime, does the judge send the children to prison with the man or woman? I think not. They are separated. Many of the children accompanying an adult at the border were not even related to that adult, which is why identification through DNA was necessary. The children were only being used to get into the country. ( By the way, why do you suppose the kidnapping of children has skyrocketed in Central American countries and Mexico?) These children would have been sold into slavery or used for sex trafficking. Despicable!

We have a HUGE problem on our border, and people with caring, compassion, and commonsense are needed to solve the problem. Both parties in our government need to work together to solve the problem -- no identity politics for the Dems, no cheap labor for the Repubs. Get it done!

One of the Commandments. Honor they Father and they mother. Honoring means loving, obeying, respect them, and listen to parents' advice.

Try to discern what is right and wrong. Not all parents are good. Most democrat parents can't follow what I've written. Although some may know, but in practice they don't follow them. That is why I might say, use your common sense. if your parents advice does not belong to God, don't follow them.

I know all democrats will hate me for saying this. But it is true. What they practice now are all against God. Look what they are doing to our president Trump. Would that include countries who were ruled by an oppressive authority, such as Hitler, or presently Kim Jung Un?

The position the Scriptures uphold is one of biblical submission, with a Christian being allowed to act in civil disobedience to the government if it commands evil, such that it requires a Christian to act in a manner that is contrary to the clear teachings and requirements of God’s Word.

Civil Disobedience—Examples in Scripture
In Exodus 1, the Egyptian Pharaoh gave the clear command to two Hebrew midwives that they were to kill all male Jewish babies. The Bible says the midwives disobeyed Pharaoh and “feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live” (Exodus 1:17). The Bible goes on to say the midwives lied to Pharaoh about why they were letting the children live; yet even though they lied and disobeyed their government, “God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty. Because the midwives feared God, He established households for them” (Exodus 1:20–21).

In Joshua 2, Rahab directly disobeyed a command from the king of Jericho to produce the Israelite spies who had entered the city to gain intelligence for battle. Instead, she let them down via a rope so they could escape. Even though Rahab had received a clear order from the top government official, she resisted the command and was redeemed from the city’s destruction when Joshua and the Israeli army destroyed it.

The book of 1 Samuel records a command given by King Saul during a military campaign that no one could eat until Saul had won his battle with the Philistines. However, Saul’s son Jonathan, who had not heard the order, ate honey to refresh himself from the hard battle the army had waged. When Saul found out about it, he ordered his son to die. However, the people resisted Saul and his command and saved Jonathan from being put to death (1 Samuel 14:45).

Another example of civil disobedience in keeping with biblical submission is found in 1 Kings 18. That chapter briefly introduces a man named Obadiah who “feared the Lord greatly.” When the queen Jezebel was killing God’s prophets, Obadiah took a hundred of them and hid them from her so they could live. Such an act was in clear defiance of the ruling authority’s wishes.

In 2 Kings, the only apparently approved revolt against a reigning government official is recorded. Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, began to destroy the royal offspring of the house of Judah. However, Joash the son of Ahaziah was taken by the king’s daughter and hidden from Athaliah so that the bloodline would be preserved. Six years later, Jehoiada gathered men around him, declared Joash to be king, and put Athaliah to death.

Daniel records a number of civil disobedience examples. The first is found in chapter 3 where Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow down to the golden idol in disobedience to King Nebuchadnezzar’s command. The second is in chapter 6 where Daniel defies King Darius’ decree to not pray to anyone other than the king. In both cases, God rescued His people from the death penalty that was imposed, signaling His approval of their actions.

In the New Testament, the book of Acts records the civil disobedience of Peter and John towards the authorities that were in power at the time. After Peter healed a man born lame, Peter and John were arrested for preaching about Jesus and put in jail. The religious authorities were determined to stop them from teaching about Jesus; however, Peter said, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge; for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:19–20). Later, the rulers confronted the apostles again and reminded them of their command to not teach about Jesus, but Peter responded, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

One last example of civil disobedience is found in the book of Revelation where the Antichrist commands all those who are alive during the end times to worship an image of himself. But the apostle John, who wrote Revelation, states that those who become Christians at the time will disobey the Antichrist and his government and refuse to worship the image (Revelation 13:15) just as Daniel’s companions violated Nebuchadnezzar’s decree to worship his idol.

Civil Disobedience—Conclusion
What conclusions can be drawn from the above biblical examples? The guidelines for a Christian’s civil disobedience can be summed as follows:

• Christians should resist a government that commands or compels evil and should work nonviolently within the laws of the land to change a government that permits evil.
• Civil disobedience is permitted when the government’s laws or commands are in direct violation of God’s laws and commands.
• If a Christian disobeys an evil government, unless he can flee from the government, he should accept that government’s punishment for his actions.
• Christians are certainly permitted to work to install new government leaders within the laws that have been established.

Lastly, Christians are commanded to pray for their leaders and for God to intervene in His time to change any ungodly path that they are pursuing: “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:1–2).

I agree in what you've said. Guideline of obeying the leaders when they rule and follow the laws of God. On the contrary, there are leaders who don't follow and therefore those are not part of the rules to follow.

E.g. Mr. Obama, lied so much. During his All Faith meeting at the WH, he vilified Christianity, and praise Islam as the religion of peace. He rejected Christians who were seeking refuge in the US, but accepted all Muslims who came.
He did not stop ISIS, called only and JV Team, then allowed ISIS to grow and eradicate most Christians in the Middle East. He hated PM Netanyahu and Israel.

This kind of leader who've lied so much is no good to follow.

The children of illegal immigrants ARE NOT being imprisoned.

Providing a view of the big picture IS NOT a logical fallacy. There is no "false equivalency" in pointing out that broken families in which American children are separated from their parents is a serious problem in our society. And, we are talking about bonafide American citizens, not illegals.

You just remain a bleeding heart hypocrite and weep for a couple thousand unfortunate kids who are victims of the liberal open border policies, but put a lid on your obsession with logical fallacies and moral equivalencies, your incessant attempt at those arguments are themselves logical fallacies.
