Both sides do this, and most often it is unnecessary...except to stir up the specific constituency to rabid drool slobbering comments. The reasonable and well-informed find these threads tiresome and ugly. That is usually the swing vote in elections. When the Far Right talks about such undecided and usually independent voters as spineless wafflers ready to fall for anything because they lack values, which is how they feel about RINOs, guess which way this group tends to vote?

Anyone doing any intelligent assessment of anything does so with a wait and see attitude and avoiding presuppositions. This is wise, not waffling. One may want to interpret fence-seating on certain issues as only waiting for what is opportune politically, yet that is not always or even generally true. Immigration and religious freedom are two of those subjects that need far more thought and enlightened legislation. Not to automatically concede to the feeding frenzy on either side of these topics to devour the opposition in righteous indignation does not make a person amoral or a coward.

I am taking it that you fall into that superior group that waits to see rather than jumping into discussions.....but, still I see you join in each of the threads with your opinions on the subject matter. Curious!

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven. The trick is to know what needs to be dealt with right away, and what can wait.

Are you saying knowledge and wisdom each fall short of a "trick"?

Would I be amiss in saying each can be complimentary of the other and neither is exclusive of the other?

Very kind of you to say....Y'know, your new avatar looks like it would like to take a swipe at whoever dressed it up like that. Someone must have had a pair of chain mail gauntlets.

Then, how come I can say fairly sure that Obama would claim his wisdom compliments his knowledge and his knowledge compliments his wisdom, with no tricks involved in either situation"?

I thought my statement was simple enough. What are you fishing for? What a person claims and what reality is can be two very different things. It's up to the listener to discern the truth. That's what I meant by the "trick".

Being open to discussion is how we come to a better understanding; and, yes, I feel that it is superior to being deaf, dumb, and blind to anything but party line or our deepest held prejudices. I express my opinion not as the end all or be all on the topic but only what I view as good and essential, willing, as I have repeatedly shown, open to seeing things in a different light.

A trick mostly unknown by party hacks and haters.

At the moment EVERYTHING is a crisis and must be dealt with immediately by more spending, more regulations, more laws and more government agencies. As a result, not much seems to be getting done and what is being done is being done amateurishly. All those crises do have the happy result, however, of keeping the citizens distracted while politicians and moneyed interests amass wealth and power at their expense.

Nothing is getting done by the will not to do anything by Republicans. This is on record. I provided three sites to verify the House's purposeful impotence and Senate desired obstructionism by filibuster. I do not believe you will go the way of thinking that the public record of how Republicans have behaved in both chambers has been altered by the minions of the OWO.

Your opening remark struck me and held my interest. "Both sides do this, and most often it is unnecessary...except to stir up the specific constituency to rabid drool slobbering comments. The reasonable and well-informed find these threads tiresome and ugly." Then you went on to say that a well informed individual takes a "wait and see" approach. From many, or most of your previous posts, I found that you were eager to jump directly into the pool without first checking the water. By implication, you would have me believe that you think highly of yourself and your impeccable ability to remain natural, yet you are quick to jump into the fray and create the atmosphere that you condemn in your opening statement. I just found it amusing. I may be deaf, dumb, and blind--as you imply, but I do have a solid basis for my biased views.

Now for your statement about being willing to see other positions with more clarity than I. Perhaps. But, even the most open minded person has a niche that they protect. And I do agree, you staunchly protect yours with every means at your disposal.
