Dog gone.
I know i did a lot of whining last summer when my two great but old dogs went to their reward.
Now after at least 30 years, I am without any dog at all.
The young useless but loving lab we had remaining, was visited by a couple friends every day..
One of the useless mutts, likes to run and he lured our fine dog to go with him a few days ago.
We put a plea on radio and asked around the area for help finding both dogs..
they turned up half way around the lake in someones swimming pool. the owners were not home.
With only about 2 ft of water in the pool, the dogs could not get out..
A good man got them out and returned both dogs.
the dogs stunk from the putrid water in the pool..
Day 2 of the returne our dog got a little sick.. got much sicker each day. 4 days later he died on his way to the vet..
Very next day a TV new story ran about toxic algae found in stagnant water this year.. A bit unusual..
The vet called about this and was quite sure that was what killed our find dog..
So, I wish to warn you all, this algae is not so common but can be anywhere in the nation..
Do not let your pets into any stagnant pool, they could also lose their life..
And for sure do not let any child play or wade in this sort of pond.. some kids will love to do that..
It could kill a child... that is not an overstatement..
Much as I miss my dog the reason for this post is about any child who may want to play in those spring ponds, now containing algae..
be very cautious..

We have a spring on the property and it makes a small creek running off the old home place. It is ice cold year round the dogs love it.

I haven't been down there in lets see probably 55 or so years. My help tells me it is a little wider and about knee deep. I doubt there are any fish this close to the spring.

Wow, not sure it related, but I have an old ornamental pool, has gone to the frogs ect. As soon as the ice melts they lay their eggs and I,
not being a killer of frogs can do little but run fresh water into it. Anyway we also had a growing colony of yellow spotted salamanders, the big black ones with yellow spots. I enjoy seeing them every spring as they are reclusive otherwise. One day I went out, they were all dead, 18 of them. I was very sad , thought maybe it was the erratic weather. Do you have a name on this algae? Sorry about your loss.

I can relate to that spring frogs and salamanders, we have a pond a short way that breed frogs by the ton.. We love the first music from the early awaking each spring.. wonderful.
The did give a name to this particular algae but a long scientific one that I could not even pronounce, let alone remember.. Sorry.
I should mention that my title was a bad choice.. Yes, I feel the lose of my last dog, but mostly I wanted a warning because it affects people as well and little kids love shallow ponds, pools and such..
Sorry about the the loss of your dog! Thanks for the information!

I would like to get some of that algae and put it in a certain swamp/sewer out in California and see if it will clear up that swamp.
What did you expect from an EVIL OLD MARINE?
Kill them all and let God sort then out.
