Is this a direct quote or are you just paraphrasing a passage in your secular gospel? The proper thing to do is cite the book, chapter and verse.

Obviously, ancient societies and tribes who created their own moral and ethical foundations did not agree on what those morals and ethics should be. Some societies loved their neighbors, other societies ate them. Seems nothing has changed among secular societies. Without an absolute moral reference, this is what happens.
