Yeap, for everybody's sake i hope this will never happen!!!!
What is stopping Alfie's parents from loading him up in the jet Italy has waiting to take him to Italy? Is Great Britain no longer a free country. The hallmark of a truly free country is the freedom to leave not get in illegally. Sounds like the old East Germany, Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Laos...
The doctors are right Alfie's condition is probably terminal and to prolong his life would be cruel but that decision should be his parents.
Don't confuse single payer with socialized medicine. They are NOT the same.

How do you know Dr. Kevyn??He has been breathing on his own for more then 10hrs so far...And in any case, shouldnt it be parents' choice whether or not to prolong his life???

There are no treatment options to stop or reverse the disease process. Keeping him on a vent to prolong his death is far from humane, it is difficult to understand what his parents are trying to accomplish.

Are you a parent Kevyn???.....Probably not, because if you were you would know that parents would do anything to see if there is even 1% chance of survival that they could anything and everything to make this 1% happen...Im with them!!!1.

Exactly!!! My wife lay for 3 days in an intensive care unit on life support. I had her oncologist and my medical doctor brother there. They advised me that after removing all the life support systems that if she miraculously continued to breath on her on she would still be brain dead. The 3 of us made the decision to remove all life support and she gasped about 4 times before dying. It was the hardest thing in my life I had ever had to watch. But she had suffered and endured untold sickness and pain for a year fighting lung and brain cancer. She had just turned 54.

Alfie's parents should be given that decision to make. If they want to take him to Italy then they should be allowed. I cannot believe this would happen in Great Britain, supposedly a free country. If it were my son, I would be on that plane with him instantly.

Thank you. I believe she is. At least she is not suffering anymore. Alfie deserves every chance, no matter how slim it is.
