"Whenever I am disturbed, no matter what the apparent cause, the problem is in me." A spiritual Axiom

You got me correctly pegged, aunTie: drop "useful" and you have me. Nearly twenty-five years of alcoholism made me not just an abysmal failure but a virulent failure, infecting all I came in contact with. I bet you did not know how low a character you were actually dealing with, unless you naturally assume that anyone who shares opinions like mine is deplorably as decadent.

I am a Nam Vet. I have worked all my life and still do, but at 66 it is part time for a Christian TV station (KVBA, Alamogordo, NM; 575-437-1919; ask for Tom). I am a father and grandfather, one and one. AA principles has me look to where I can be of help each day in all of my affairs. Not having an affair in maybe twenty years or more helps.

What helps me stay sober would most often drive normal people crazy. An example: there are no Big Deals. Or, "anger is the luxury of others." Not at One Political Plaza, or so it seems.

It may be hubris to think of myself as an Independent, for it seems to suggest an openness of mind and heart that right now seems unavailable to Left or Right. One who clearly sees truth but is forced to coerce or cajole the opposing sides to approximate what is best. LOL. I must admit that my major character defect is a shortness of patience for those who refuse to open their minds, something I am working on.

rumitoid: I am 67 got drafted in 66 (volunteered for draft - not many did that). Did not go to Nam, they sent me to Germany for whatever reason. Politics was the last thing on my mind back then. The older you get the more you begin to open your eyes and sometimes reality is like a hammer to the head.

Congratulations with your alcohol recovering process. Like you I consider myself an independent but the democratic rage against GW and the hypocrisy of the Obama Administration motivated me to the point of using forums etc. I am not a registered Republican but I cannot lock step with the Dem's in any shape or form I hate what Obama has done and is doing to this country and all on the backs of the low informed voter.

Regardless of you political stance anyone who posts in a forum cares one way or the other. There are trolls of course but they are the ones who go to forums because it is their only outlet.

Communication is the key. I can't make the plunge to be a libertarian, no way can I be a Dem, and the Republican establishment is still in the dark ages. Where do you go from here. I guess you go to a forum and express your frustrations.

In my present understanding, there is no such thing as "righteous indignation" for me; it only puts me in an authoritarian position of condemnation and not a possible restorative relationship, which perpetuates the harm.

For about two decades, my fondest wish, if I had thought to frame it this way, would have been to be a "useful idiot." How grand, in my eyes. Instead, I was a plight to everyone I met, using all for my addictive ends.

Perhaps coming from that background, being the lowest of the low, I try to avoid as best I can any perjorative comments or labels. A term like "useful idiot" is, for me, what will help destroy our country. No more frkn WWI trench warfare when it comes to discussing policies. This is a republic, not no man's land. Grow up! Talk to each other. Figure things out. This is not rocket science. Try human.

So you come here to besmirch a group of people that dares to think differently from your ilk and provide no substance other than hateful vitriol that your kind typically espouse? Have you ever been to a Tea Party rally? Have you ever talked to anyone is from the Tea Party?

Judgmental surrogates such as yourself tout the liberal lie of “tolerance and understanding” but in reality it is “hate and reticule” against anyone who dares oppose your view point.

As much as I warned you about not to feed the troll –screendoor827-- I suppose in hindsight we allow this gadfly to keep spewing his hateful left-wing rhetoric. Thanks for giving us the ammo to use against your kind. By the way that tightness you feel around your neck is the noose you made for yourself the minute you made it clear you’re nothing but a tool.

Rumitool explain to us how can we have a dialogue when leftist militants such as screendoor827 continues to harry the forums with his lies, his unintelligible rants and ire?

John Boehner’s Republican-controlled House has failed to pass a farm bill. This gives John Boehner a black eye to go with his mahogany face. The thing about a farm bill with a food stamp program included is that it has something for everybody. But House Republicans only want things for somebodies. Traditionally in a farm bill, the farm subsidies help rich agribusiness, and the food stamp program helps poor people. Democrats are willing to let Republicans give money to those who don’t need it, in exchange for getting food to poor children. But now Republicans won’t even do that.

The Republicans added an amendment to the bill that would have let states require that food stamp recipients work for their food. Amazing! The Republicans seem to have adopted a carrot and stick approach to food stamps—and they want people to have to work for the carrot. There was also an amendment that would have allowed states to drug-test people to qualify for food stamps. Interestingly, there was no similar requirement to drug-test people applying for farm subsidies. They could pee in a silver cup.

Celebrity chef Paula Deen admitted in a court deposition that she told racist jokes, used the N-word, and wanted to design a slavery-themed wedding. Here is a phrase that will never again be associated with Paula Deen—“too sweet.”

E.W. Jackson, the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Virginia, said that the social programs of the 1960’s did more harm to African Americans than slavery. In Jackson’s mind, the Great Society wasn’t as great as slavery.

A new study indicates that Tea Party supporters tend to be racist. In a related finding, water is wet. The study concludes that “racial animus is nuanced.” You know what’s not nuanced? The racist signs at the Tea Party rallies.

Rightwing loons have been trying to equate their obsession with guns to the struggle for civil rights. Sorry, losers—when they said “Eyes on the prize” they weren’t looking through a gun-sight. Civil rights protesters were being beaten, tortured, and murdered. What is being done today to gun owners? They don’t even have to show that they’re not a criminal before they’re handed a killing machine.

How about a bit of thought for you - no homework necessary - just a brain.

Start with - farm bills should not be about food stamps. If you want a food stamp bill propose one, don't try to hide it in a farm bill. Also, are you really dumb enough to think it is only Republicans that look to subsidize farms? Finally, it may shock you that people might be asked to work for food, but those of us who do it every day don't find it shocking.

As to your concern about Paula Deen, I'm sure you had equal concern with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton's racist comments -

Have you ever heard a dumb statement made by a Democrat - like Pelosi, Biden, Jackson Lee, Waters, Johnson, et al - or is your hearing as selective as your outrage about racism?

As to a study about the Tea Party - left wing propagandists have been selling that meme to useful idiots for some time now - and I'm sure they're glad for folks like you where it works. As to racist signs at Tea Party rallies - they exist in the imagination of useful idiots - and the ones that have been investigated have invariably shown to be by leftists planted for idiots to see.

I object to your use of the term "useful idiots." Any usefulness they might have possessed is long gone, therefore, your description is no longer valid. You will, in the future. please employ the more accurate "useless idiots." Thank you for your cooperation.

I'm having a problem here. Caused by the last couple of posts. Anyone mind telling me what the "N" word is? A black can call me a "white boy" (this is almost always used in an insulting, derogatory manner), and it is perfectly acceptable, but if I call this black a "nigger," it's not? One is racist and the other isn't? Give me a damn break. The one is no worse than the other, except in the minds of the "oh so politically correct if I offend anyone I may wet my frilly panties" Progressives who believe the only legitimate targets are white males with jobs and viewpoints that are decidedly non-Liberal.

the N word is short hand for nigger which is a bastardization of negro which is Spanish for black
