When a white student at California State University was caught this month wearing blackface, administrators had a clear message: it was racist, but “protected by free speech”.

Days later, when a professor tweeted that the late Barbara Bush was a “racist”, the university’s tone was different: the faculty member would be investigated for her remarks, which, a campus president said, went “beyond free speech”.

The divergent responses have provided a stark illustration of what some critics say is a double standard that has emerged in the fraught campus free speech debates of recent years. That is, in the face of conservative outrage over controversial leftwing views, colleges are quick to condemn and censor. But when racism, hate speech and pro-fascist views emerge, university presidents regularly declare their unwavering commitment to free speech rights – no matter the content.

When a white student at California State Universit... (show quote)

You lying POS .All the fraternity’s on campus were shut down indefinitely, the kid was suspended indefinitely meaning he won’t graduate this year and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind he will never graduate from Cal Poly. The President of The university turned to jello and in between crapping himself,he completely caved in too pressure from the left. The incident was an innocent spur of the moment thing, the frat boys were playing a game and one side was the black side and one was the blue side so he blackened his face because of the side he was on,nothing more to it.He apologized profusely and said he never thought of the implications of what he was doing and the others backed him up,there wasn’t any racial intent.Another life damaged possibly ruined by vicious left wing scum. The university pres.could have handled it a lot better but now his job is in jeopardy the kids are calling for him to resign, good for them he deserves to be forced out.I live a short distance from Cal Poly.

KKKevyn, as far as the student who put on "blackface", have you never heard that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery? So, how can it be racist? Also, in all my 70+ years on this earth I have never seen a truly black person. Or a truly white person for that matter. They are a thousand shades of brown and we are sort of a pinkish-beige. Negroes started calling themselves "black" as an affront to caucasians
; they wanted to be polar opposites. As for the "professor? She's just a bitch.

Your including me in your homoerotic masochistic sexual fantasies is disturbing. You really should have your head examined by a qualified shrink.

All those groups who are defending the professor's free speech rights should recognize that there is no right to cause material harm, to your employer, by exercise of your free speech. She should be canned from her job and given a map to the local public park along with a crate to stand on so she can utilize her free speech rights to her heart's content.
