I had a classical education in a private school. I had four years of speaking and discussing such topics casually. This was the stuff of our existence. In the past fifty years I cannot tell you how many times on social media or in general conversation, big words and knowledge of "esoteric" writers (well-known to the educated) have been put down as gay. This is a Right Wing thing predominantly. (Saying Ta-o-ism for Daoism was correct speakalize for their congregants on Tammy's show, after a supposed four day conference with Taoists. That would be impossible to mistake. But correctly saying Daoism might make them converts or suspect. Maybe smart, God forbid. Say the dumb and anticipated pronunciation. It is expected.

It would be nice if you be coherent in your thoughts and words so us mere mortals could understand.

Lao Tzu would be ashamed of you. Daoism and Taoism are both correct pronunciations. The name comes from the Chinese language which has many sounds not used in the English language. The d/t sound is one of them. When such foreign phonemes are transferred to English, the English pronunciation is only an approximation.
Making an issue of that kind of nonsense was a staple of the pseudo-intellectual claptrap of the 60s. Shame...
BTW - Can those of us lacking your vaunted education presume you meant to refer to Chaucer?

I was an ass. Little, if any, thought went into this thread. It happens. Reactionary over an incident at church between a gun-toting elder and a teacher from the Middle school.
