That pneumonia shot only covers a certain type and is good for seven years

And one more thing, IT HURT! I am not sure why my doctor wanted me to have it, I had gone in for a ton of shots due to pending travel, and he added it. I have not had a cold in so many years that I can not remember. I have had the sniffles, but they would go away in less than a day. I accused the doctor of revving up his income, because the shot was a couple hundred.

What type of pneumonia does it vaccinate against?

I just was thinking about shots they say we have a whole generation of people that are vulnerable to biological terrorism if they used the small pox as a weapon.
I am over 50 and received one but it probably isn't effective anymore.
before Obama we heard mumbling about revaccinating for smallpox.
Just another thing we aren't being told about?? Just a thought. The risk of contracting it isn't that high to at least offer it to those old enough to decide for themselves

Good morning AuntiE,

When I took Nancy in for shots (because no one had a health record for her) I insisted that she not be given all of them at one time. I am not sure if she would have had a reaction, after all she is not a baby, but I did not want her to have a cocktail of dead bugs being shot into her and having a reaction to one and not knowing which one. Speaking of shots, I just got one for pneumonia. I did not know that there was such a shot.

BTW, thank you for the help last night.

I am glad you did not do the cocktail. More needles are not fun, but I believe more advisable.

They have been doing the pneumonia shot for quite a while. It may, also, provide some protection for "run of the mill" respiratory infections.

I found it amusing that the technological dunce was providing assistance to the computer guru. :-D

It's one of your more painful shots. Its for pneumonia your likely to catch if your fighting the viral cold or if your in the hospital and you come in contact with someone who is infectious. Most pneumonia isn't easily communicable.

You are far from a tech dunce!

She was okay with the extra shots because we took time to tell her why. But, a little tyke...they just see the needle and scream!

Thank you. It did hurt, a lot! I got a huge lump and it was hot to the touch. So he did give it to me for revving up his payment. I get sniffles, over in less than 12 hours and never go to the doctor for them. The last time I was hospitalized was to have my son.... over 40 years ago. Oh well, I guess better to have had the shot than get sick and it be too late.

I do appreciate the information, I am so glad to have talked with you! You are a wealth of info and a gentle person.....

My brother had MASSIVE allergies. He had to have shots twice a week, which my mother gave him. She was so good it was over before he knew it was started.

There are some who have a knack for doing it without causing pain...I think that the nurse who gave me mine was having a real bad day. Or it could be that, due to my ability to piss off the Pope, I had said something that offended her.
