So far Trump has tried to be true to his promises: I sincerely hope he effectively takes on the pharmaceutical industry. It has been out of control since George W. Bush caved on the doughnut hole he acceded to when the Medicare part D was implemented.

Price is not the only problem though.
It is the side effects.
Dangerous side effects.

Some of the new drugs have more side effects than benefits!

Yep!!! All you have to do is pay attention to the side effect warnings at the end of TV ads.

We all know how the "undocumented" pharmacists, the illegal drug pushers operate, and all the miseries they cause humanity, but that's not the issue here; I'm going to write my opinion of Big Pharma, the "documented" pharmacists, and some advertising in general. We are a Nation of Junkies, and not by our own choice entirely. We are being led this direction by drug pushers, with full governmental support. The FDA is not our friend, and neither is Big Pharma.

You can tell how much these documented drug pushers care about people by the disclaimers they put out on their products. If they gave a damn about their customers, they would read, print, or televise their disclaimers at normal reading or viewing speeds and use a print font that you don't have to use a jewelers loup to read. Big Pharma isn't the only abuser of advertising ethics, many merchandisers have the same approach to keep customers in the dark. If you could easily read or understand what they are saying about their product, you most likely wouldn't stand within ten feet of it, let alone stick it in your mouth or touch it.

"Natural" supplements are better, but since there are no "government controls" on them whatsoever, there is a lot of room for abuse, and false and deceptive advertising about the "benefits" they profess to provide. You really have to be careful about who you buy from, and how much you believe of their "personal testimonials and recommendations." A great many products are really over-hyped, but they're still less apt to kill you than some of Big Pharma's stuff with all their side effects and unintended consequences.

Ever notice how Big Pharma never cures anything? We did get rid of polio, but it wasn't Big Pharma that did it, it was Jonas Salk. They just treat the symptoms and reduce pain and suffering. After a century of research by thousands of "scientists" they still can't cure a common cold; profits are the motive IMHO, look at all the "cold and flu" remedies on the drug store shelves, then realize that if you take the stuff you can get over a cold in about 7 days, but if you let the cold run its course it'll be gone in about a week. Doctors help promote drugs by putting you on them but never taking you off of them, just adding another to them to relieve the next symptom of whatever it may be. Pretty soon you have a pharmacy setting on your vanity top. Of course, if you take all the "Natural" products for every little thing, you get about as many bottles of them on your vanity top as well, and your insurance usually doesn't cover them; their profit production is in having a different herb or mineral for every little symptom, real or imagined, under the sun, and many are supposed to be good for a multitude of ailments, but if you took a pill for every little thing, you would be taking a huge number of pills. It's a bit like putting all the available gasoline saving gimmicks on your car to get better gas mileage; if you improve your gas mileage by 10 percent for every gimmick, if it weren't for the fact that getting 10 percent over and over never gets beyond 100 percent savings, you would have to drain your gas tank every so often to get rid of the excess gasoline being formed in your tank! Taking pill after pill works about the same way.

I had been taking blood pressure pills for hypertension put out by Big Pharma for several years. I noticed my blood pressure wasn't much different one way or another, and when I retired it dropped a little. I quit taking the pills and it dropped even more, so I don't take blood pressure pills anymore; haven't for about five years now and I'm doing just fine without them. I've taken a number of "Natural" supplements for various symptoms, some did some good, most didn't, and since Big Pharma has been under a heavier than usual attack about their prices, the prices of the "Natural" supplements have skyrocketed to the point I can no longer afford to take them. Well, I probably could afford to take them, but I choose not to because I'm rather Scotch with those types of expenditures, and the cost versus benefits is higher than they are worth; guess I'll just muddle through until something gets me, and do my part to help the UN with their Agenda 21 population reduction goals. In spite of what the government says about taking care of us elders, they really don't like us very much because we put a burden on their "entertainment and likker" budget in Congress; they may have only two parties, but both parties last about 365 days per year, and are very, very expensive! They should all have to pee in a cup every week, along with the welfare recipients, before they get paid even a penny!

Here in the USA, our "magnificent medical machine" with it's mostly government controlled medical procedures like "poison, slash and burn" for cancer treatment, ended up killing my wife over a cancer she never even had. They discovered a lump in her breast with a routine mammogram, cut it out, determined it was a "stage zero" cancer (might turn into a cancer, maybe), cut out some more of the area around it "just to be sure," and proceeded with some chemotherapy and several weeks of hard radiation. All was OK they said. About 5 years later, the aggressive leukemia the radiation caused came to the forefront, and she died from that in spite of all the additional chemotherapy they gave her for it. She died of "uncontrolled leukemia" they said; but I say she died from their so-called "standard" procedures. Of course, this being my humble opinion and my not being a medical doctor, just an engineer with a BS in Physics, I couldn't prove it, but the timing was simply too perfect to be just a coincidence; the radiation through her ribs and breast bones caused the leukemia and it took about 5 years to develop and take her out! The hospital and the doctors kept her alive as long as they could, and they made a lot of money doing it; again, profits! My take away from all this, particularly at my somewhat advanced age, was to revise my thinking, and if they should discover cancer in my body I will simply sit back and observe it for quite some time before making any radical decisions of whether to allow our "Grand Medical System" to turn me into a profit generator, or just let it take me out naturally. Suffer in a hospital and go broke doing it, or suffer at home and leave my assets to my children, that will be the big question.

As you may gather from my dissertation, I am not too fond of our Grand Medical System, even though I've been cut on a couple of times and survived. I only visit a doctor when I have a genuine concern about something I am experiencing, and that usually only occurs about once a year for a physical.

Money talks and BS walks the big boys tell me. So whenever you want to know why something unusual or shady is happening that you don't understand, just follow the money! Usually profit, legal or illegal, is involved. It is amazing, sometimes even astounding, where the winding path can lead you.

Have a nice day.

Great post Abel. I share your view of our medical profession and the FDA. Sorry about your wife!
