As both a prosecutor and defense attorney, I have written and reviewed many indictments. Though often brimming with legalese, they are designed by prosecutors to tell a compelling and detailed crime story. The indictment announced Friday in the Mueller investigation told just such a story -- of Russian attempts to sabotage the American presidential election.

If the allegations of the indictment prove true, it seems probable that the Russians were successful in their multimillion-dollar effort to influence the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States. Of course the answer to this complex question will never be definitively known. Polling cannot tell us whether voters might have chosen differently if the Russian influence operation hadn't happened.
What is known, however, is that the election was close and voter shifts in just a few significant states could have changed the Electoral College vote count in a presidential election in which Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.

As often as you link to Facebook here, how come you didn't vote for Trump considering the power of the ads?

Not quite.

The indictment doesn't say the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, but doesn't rule it out either.

Anybody looking for clues about the collusion investigation into the Trump campaign won't find much to grab hold of. If anything, the indictment may hearten Trump allies in that it doesn't draw a line to the campaign, which suggests there was a large-scale effort independent of any possible collusion. Perhaps that's the real meddling effort, some folks in the White House may be telling themselves right now. Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein even specified that Trump campaign officials who were contacted by the Russian nationals “did not know they were communicating with Russians.”

But that's about as much insight as anyone can draw; we simply don't know what else is coming down the pike, and any ties to Trump campaign officials may have been withheld from this indictment to avoid disclosing details of an ongoing investigation. The president hasn't even been interviewed yet, so we wouldn't expect any ties to the campaign at this juncture.

Asked whether campaign officials had knowledge of the scheme or were duped, Rosenstein chose his words carefully. “There is no allegation in this indictment that any American had any knowledge,” Rosenstein said.

The words “in this indictment” mean Rosenstein's comments are pretty narrow.'

Anyone find it strange that Mueller announced these indictments as more and more info is coming out about the Hillary campaign and the Steele dossier. There's your collusion. I don't know if its criminal or not but the DNC along with Hillary paid for information coming from the Russians to be used to influence the election. Secondly I doubt you or anyone else were influenced by Face Book, Twitter or any other adds placed by Russian's on those platforms. 90% of Twitter adds were done after the election and 56% of the other Social Media adds. Russia wasn't trying to influence the election. They were trying to sew discord among Americans. I'm sure like everyone else they thought Hillary would win. That's why immediately after the election all those already paid for adds knocking Hillary hit Social Media. The Russians did an immediate about face and started funding anti -Trump propaganda. Also the amount of money spent by the Russians on these adds is a pittance compared to the adds the candidates spent in just Iowa alone.

Those are solid points, JFlorio. Though, many besides myself don't subscribe to either Facebook or Twitter...and have no intention of doing so.

I don't use either of those things but my son did try to get me on that thing. I never could figure out how to do it so only get to see some things on my inbox but do read some good things from a student from way back when.

How about our laws that preserve our sovereignty. Being here without documentation is against our laws. You cannot be a sovereign nation if our borders are not enforced. How about voting in our so called free elections? It is against the law to vote if you are not a citizen.

Not only does the Democrat party ignore our rules of law, they actually promote the breaking of our laws as well as they openly promote sedition, treason and the murder of a legally elected President.

One more question, what independent professional doctor bff as examined th e President and determined he is unfit mentally to serve? Yes, he can be professionally labeled a narcissist, a womanizer and a control freak but there have been many Presidents that have those issues.

Ummmm ... if I recall correctly, the Dossier was originally started as an oppo research project by the Trump Campaign. For some reason, they discontinued and the Clinton campaign picked it up and finished it. In either case, it has been verified in many instances as to its accuracy, most recently in the indictments that were made public last Friday. Why can't you all accept factual evidence from multiple sources?

As I recall, the Dossier was originally started by Republican opponents of Trump, not the Trump Campaign.
