Buster Keaton amazing. Nobody could imitate him. Chaplin had good imitators. Chaplin used more trick photography. Keaton planned each stunt in meticulous detail.
He is honored but less appreciated. He is the standard of creative physical American comedy all other are judged by. Too bad studios interfered with Keaton, Laurel & Hardy and Marx Bros. Their best work was when they had control. Thus later studios diluted and harmed their careers and thus milked a cash cow til it dried up. Must have broken the hearts of these comedy legends.
No but lousy directors or scripts and studios that deny them the use if their creative talents can ruin their public appeal. That's what hapeed to all three.
