Still have a scar on my ass from leaning up against the pot bellied coal heater in the parlor in snow wet clothes. That was upstate NY out of the woods. Mike

The two I can't recall are 'wrap-around windshield' and 'three-on-the-tree.'

Ah, come-on, Slatten! Surely you remember those two! Wrap-around windshields came on Corvettes and other cars and moved the windshield posts back toward the front doors to allow for more front visibility. The “three on the tree” referenced the gear shifter being located on the right side of the steering column and not on the floor between the front seats.

My first car was my dad’s used ‘61 Comet. It was given to me in 1967. Back then, in Alabama, one could get a license to drive a motorcycle at 14, a learner’s permit for driving a car, at 15 and a license to drive a car at 16. I was 16 and a junior in high school. One on the reasons the Comet was given to me was so I could take my younger brother to his junior high school. Since I was on the high school football team, it befell our dad to pick him up after school and/or his football practices.

My car had an in-line 6, 232ci, manual transmission (three-on-the-tree), foot-switch-controlled high-beam/low-beam headlights, NO A/C, low-speed/high-speed windshield wipers (none of this “intermittent” wiper stuff), and an AM radio. It had side window vents between the windshield and the front-door windows that would open almost 140 degrees to allow for the exiting of smoke (I didn’t/don’t smoke) and to allow for the entrance of “forced” fresh air (Hence the old saying, “2 vent-windows open at 60 mph”).

That car saw me through the rest of high school and all through college. Upon graduating from college, my dad offered me the option of paying for a Master’s Degree or a new car. Stupid me, I opted for the car. (1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with a 351 ci, Cleveland engine and a Holly, 750 cfm, 4-barrel carburetor on top of a high-rise intake manifold with dual exhaust. Of course, it averaged about 13 mpg, too, but, that mother would fly! I had it almost 2 years before it was stolen. Had I chosen the degree, the diploma may have been stolen, but the degree would’ve always been with me.

I have the degrees, but the looking back, the Mach 1 was a better deal. Holly 4 barrel, money can't beat memories.
