Rosemary LaBonte wrote to the editors of a California newspaper in response to an article they printed and written by Ernie Lujan who suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the immigrants of today aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry. Seems Mr Lujan wants a free pass for some. The paper never printed a response, so her husband sent it out via internet. Now I am posting some it here.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented.

Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved goodbye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people.
When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French American, the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. They get free tuition to our schools, health care, housing, a credit card, a voters card!!! All this cost over 135 BILLION
dollars a year and it's going up. Our roads and bridges are falling apart, but our Democrat leaders care not. They only care about the vote these people can make.
I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to not mean a lot to the Senators who are not voting on the immigration bill. They would shut down our country
instead.
I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

FOR THE WRONG THINGS TO PREVAIL, THE RIGHTFUL MAJORITY NEEDS TO REMAIN COMPLACENT AND QUIET.
LET THIS NEVER HAPPEN!

I sincerely hope this letter gets read by millions of people all across the nation! And we do something to fix it.

I copied that letter and sent it to all my contacts.

It was of the highest quality letters to the editor I have recently read.

When George Washington thought of the future immigrants to the USA he mentioned they should MERIT citizenship and acceptance. I agree.

I share that feeling of impotency, yet I recall many great men throughout history saying that no instruments of war can equal the strength of an idea. We share ideas, we share opinions, ther is a mission and there will be results.

However, real action like writing, phoning, and emailing the representatives are also actions... and those actions are known to make differences.

I am and have done so for years. Even though both senators are corrupted democrats- Chuck-the-Duck (his voice won't echo) and Gillibrand.. a female faker who posed as a conservative right up until Schumer put the bite on her neck.

You've hit it right on the head, right down to flying the flag up side down, for this country is surely in distress and it was the Dems that put us in this situation, with their mad cap rush to find someone anyone to get them and keep them in power and keeping their Socialist Communist ways thriving. My own grand parents came trough the island in the late 1800s and it was just as you stated, they weren't asking for anything special and didn't expect anything for coming here, just the idea of being free and allowed to live out their lives. These were thee people willing to fight for their country and lay it all on the line to keep it a free nation, just as my grandfather fought in WWI and my father in WWII they would do anything they had to to keep it a uncorrupted free government and land to live in.

This is an immigrant, but these refugees that we have flooding our shores today are just that (refugees~!)

The people that don't see the difference in the two should maybe look them up, for a immigrant is someone that leaves their born country to avoid the strifes of war, political conflict and bias, so they look for a country to settle in, because they must leave their own nation, just so that they can be free to live out their lives in peace and most will do anything just to migrate to and in the old day they were willing to assimilate into the culture, by obeying our laws and respecting the cultures of everyone else.

Where a refugee on the other hand is usually someone fleeing persecution for crimes that they have done already in their country, either morally, legally or politically and have no intention to curb their rebellious and terroristic ways, just because they are in someone else's backyard in fact they would rather try and turn that backyard into the same kind of shithole that they themselves had turned their last one into, with their war like ways and radical Islamic ideology. These refugees, some planned as essential terrorist and international criminals that come in, just for the express purpose of creating havoc and hide behind the soft hearted liberals that allow them to have rights that they don't deserve, so they can use the very laws we have to bear us to death with.

I believe that everyone does deserve the Bill of Human Rights, but the Civil Rights is a whole different thing, for it is part of the Constitution and you really don't deserve them until you are a Citizen of the United State of America and giving them these rights are is more of a crime then letting them in the country in the first place. These Liberal judges and dim witted Dems are trying everything, including braking the law themselves to keep the most violent of criminals in the country and releasing them back into the population, so that they can continue to prey on the citizens that have been following all the rules.

These are the migrants that keep being poured into this nation illegally thinking that they are citizens as soon as the make it across a cow fence in the desert or swim a river somewhere, from a place that if you or I went to we would need the correct documentation to do so. All other countries recognize that they have borders, for a country without them will soon become nothing more than an after thought, with illegals using it as a trash bag and one big parking lot for a tailgate party of whoever and whatever they want, while letting them rape, rob, cheat and kill and then not even punishing them in anyway, in fact aiding them to avoid the federal government from punishing them with deportation. This is a crime also and should be punished as prescribed by federal law, for if a normal naturalize citizen did the same he would get 10 years, but just because they have a little prestige they and the aliens are all now above the law in which we have all lived under for more then 200 years and are still expected to now, while the illegals do their raping, killing and pillaging of our persons and nation.

SOMETHING IS FUCK'N WRONG THERE~! AND WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE

If anyone wants to tear down the statue of Liberty they are going to find an awful lot of opposition, for I know me and the 4m Bikers for Trump will be there and it won't be pretty for to us that have fought and put it on the line for this country will probably not wait for someone to tell us not to stop them and stop them with extreme prejudice.

=======================
The immigrants during the early days came legally. They were vetted, that is why they were required to stop first at the Ellis Island to review their qualifications, and check for diseases. As soon as they were accepted, they were part of the builders of America. They worked very hard, started from scratch, specially at that time, the US was still underdeveloped. They did all kinds of hard work, assimilated all the cultures, traditions, and patriotism that made up America today. They were part of the builders who sacrificed, worked very hard dedicated their lives building America, and defended from aggression of foreign forces.

In CONTRAST, the illegal aliens of today, did not have the vetting whether they have communicable diseases, criminals, terrorists, drug dealers, dupe addicts, rapist, head coppers, and free loaders. These illegals coming to the US today are enemies, invaders, terrorists, communists, socialists, and Islam whose goals are to kill all of us, chop off our heads, and take over this country for their god islam.

These current illegals came mostly to free load, to lay their millions of babies free in our hospitals at our expense. They came to have free medical care for their communicable diseases, to steal, to kill. They came to take over. They don't assimilate, Most of them can't speak English, they can't read and write. They just want to free load and make so many babies. Most of them are lazy, and just wanted to handout. They could not work because they are illiterate. They could not learn because most of them are dumb. They get fat after eating so much of the free food stamps provided by Obama, in exchange for the illegal votes they give to the democrats. That's what they are good for creating fraud for the democrats. And the democrats used them to win the election. These kinds of people are enemies who must be deported. As a result, we the taxpayers, spend every year $113 billion plus for these illegals whose goals are mostly contrary to the interests of the American people. We need to return them to where they came from. No more of those.

The US wants people who are educated Christians preferably, with good morals, ready to work hard and contribute to the economy, assimilate to our culture, patriotic and defend our country like their own.

That woman Rosemary who came illegally must be arrested and prosecuted for attempting to destroy the Statue of Liberty.

I thought the current issue in the government shutdown battle was the group of undocumented illegals called DACA who were given a special status allowing them to live here since they were brought here as children. These folks have to be in school, on a job, or in the military. They have to report yearly to ICE. They have to pay an annual free to the U. S. which in total adds up to about $800 million dollars. Seems to me these are the kind of immigrants we want.

$800Million?? Where do untrained, unemployed folks from poverty get that kind of money? Especially if they are "in school"?

Immigration reform is not focused on just one segment, one issue.
