Sen. "Dicky" Durbin (D-Illinois) says his sole focus in the U.S. Senate is protecting illegal aliens, rather than his constituents.

On Monday, Durbin made it clear that he's dedicated himself solely to the cause of helping illegal immigrants, telling reporters: "I’m focused on one thing... making sure that those who are being protected by DACA and eligible for the DREAM Act have a future in America. I am focused on that full time."

Durbin caused controversy late last week when he claimed that Trump had called countries like Haiti "sh*thole countries," and wondered why the United States was letting in so many immigrants from there.

Trump, as well as key Republicans in the meeting, denied that the president used those words. Durbin has, in the past, been caught misquoting his colleagues from closed-door meetings.

Republicans and Democrats have contentiously been trying to work out a deal with the White House to build a comprehensive immigration plan and are trying to act fast, to keep the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program from expiring in March. But having a Senator who has vowed to put the needs of illegal immigrants over his constituents doesn't make that process easier.
