debeda, my family came here in the 1800's from Ireland. They at first didn't fair too well and most became cops. My Grandfather who carried my sister and I to school everyday worked as a Prison Guard at the State Prison in Auburn NY. He told me that he was as much of a prisoner except he was able to go home every night. In other words it wasn't much better for the guards than it was for the inmates. Mike
Yeah I think it was the same for most immigrants. I can remember in the 50s my grandfather going on about how he hated the "eyetalians" LOL
