If the corporate monkeys in DC really wanted to fix Social Security they would make ALL incomes (not just those incomes under $127,000) subject to the FICA tax and include the unearned incomes of the rich--dividend, interest, and capital gains. Then make it against the law for the greedy sons of bitches to spend the increased revenue on anything but Social Security.

Fixing the Social Security shortfall is not a priority of the corporate monkeys in DC. Giving tax cuts to the ultra wealthy and big corporations telling the sheople the big LIE that those tax cuts will create new jobs, bring back outsourced jobs and increase wages for the proletariat and propagandizing their way into the next illegal, unConstitutional, immoral war to enrich their Wall Street banksters and MIC organ grinders are their priorities. The little people (bottom 60%) should just be happy they are thrown the crumbs by their corporate masters.

If they only spent it on SS, that might benefit SS (until the gov dipped into it even more), but it would do nothing to help our economy. Unlike the Reagan trickle down theory, Trump's puts both incentives and consequences which encourage inshore business. Businesses operating within the USA and hiring US citizens is what will help our economy. Already there has been much improvement since Trump was elected due to the belief he will carry through with his promise of tax cut, certain non safety related deregulations, AND tariffs for offshored goods and services. And so he is in the process of doing. {In Obamas 2nd term he got to the point of signing in more than 100 regulations a day! How can a business keep up with meeting even a fraction of those regulations. They would often require work stoppage to implement. That alone drove businesses offshore or simply closing.}

Social Security problems stem from moving it from a separate interest bearing account to the general fund so the money paid in can be used for whatever the gov chooses instead of being held in an interest bearing account for use only on SS recipients. The original set up had interest being compounded daily. If that had remained, even with SS being expanded to people who never paid into it (such as the disabled), there would be a significant surplus.

I am 100% disabled, and I paid into SoSec for nearly 40 years before becoming disabled. Hell, I was nearly old enough to retire when I was adjudicated.

We are on a fixed income, and I understand the taxes won't hurt those people. However, most didn't really get a raise on SS, due to medicare premium went up. I didn't get anything more, same as the last 5 years since I have been on it. My brother got $7.00. They forgot to mention medicare costs going up when they promised us the raise. Medicare went up $25.00 a month, so there goes your raise. Some got $2.00 more. I understand Ryan wants to change some rules on SS and Medicare, but I believe that is for the ones not retired yet, either raising the age or something more. I know Trump said when running that he was not going to do anything to Social Security or Medicare. I guess time will tell. Hopefully not. Thank God I am healthy and can work. I feel sorry for those that was looking forward to the raise, and got disappointed like I did! That is the good old government for you! Promises, but does not deliver. The dems would never give you a raise, they are too greedy, and just want you to die, so they can keep your money. Bad enough that you lose a ss check when your spouse dies, you only get the higher of the two. So they keep that money for themselves. Doesn't seem right!

The "dems" are the people that created SS and Medicare in the first place.

Nope. Living on money that was extorted from my paycheck for nearly forty years. I could have done considerably better investing it myself, but then, I'm not a brainless bureaucrat spending someone else's money.

If every one had avoided taxes and spent their own money, we would not have had police, national defense, disease control, safety regulations, highways, bridges, schools,, universities, fire protection, and your opportunity to quit work and receive an income to keep you from having to live in a cardboard box or a store front. Now that I splained it to you, aren't you glad we extort money from each other to have as nearly a civilized society as possible?

I am sorry you are disabled, but I am totally supportive of you getting what all Americans do and I am happy to pay my share to pay for it.

Aren't you happy that money was "extorted" from our pay checks so you can live comfortably in your time of need? I have paid taxes for many years and I have not neede any disability money. However, if I had been disabled, I would have been very comfortable in accessing this entitlement and I am proud that my taxes go to you in your need. Our national motto is E Pluribus Unum and we care for each other. Taxes Are What We Pay for Civilized Society

Never fear, Loki, mischievous brother of Thor, that soon will be fixed.

WASHINGTON—In the wake of the $1.5 trillion tax bill’s historic passage in both the House and the Senate, GOP leaders reportedly celebrated Wednesday their decisive win over everyday American citizens. “This is a monumental victory not only for us, but for everyone struggling under the reign of the average American,” said Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, adding that party leaders made a promise to “take a stand against ordinary U.S. citizens,” before cracking open a bottle of champagne and proudly declaring that “today, we delivered.” “Of course, the fight against the people of this country is not yet over. We won this battle, but the war is still to come. However, if we carry on with the same vigor demonstrated today in our widely opposed tax overhaul, I know that we will prevail over Americans time and time again.” GOP leaders also expressed confidence that they would achieve another dominant victory over the American people as they push to close the deficit by cutting food stamp programs, Social Security, and Medicare.

That depends on your definition of waste.
