Don, I sure wish you would stick a smiley on a remark like this if you were joking. If not, that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard you say. After that great original post, can you seriously consider drinking again over the situation with all the a'holes you complain about. Say it ain't so, my friend.

We are the same age and must have sobered up about the same time, give or take a quart or two.

I sure did like your original post though. I'm tired too, but not "wet-brained" yet. Or, maybe? ;-)

No Democrat today would ever support a statement like that. Today it's "What can I DEMAND from my government for free?"

Yep, the Democratic or ' progressive' political party of today have reversed Kennedy's platform 180 degrees.

What I don't understand in particular is this. Why are good meaning people, .... salt of the earth so to speak ... so eager to blame every one except the ones that are right in front of there eyes?

Makes no sense. Why don't they call a spade , a spade? Dam that frustrates me.

I was called the other night by one of my Granddaughters. Just checking up on Grandma and me.

And she asked why I sounded so up beat? I told her I was so very pleased the Tax bill passed.

I was astounded to learn, ....her being a school teacher ..... she new nothing about it. And than she asked what good was it going to do her and her family? Now this is a highly educated woman, with several degrees. The only thing I could think of was to inform her, I know she doesn't live under
a rock, so knowing that, where had she been in the last year or so, ( politically speaking ).

Her answer just about floored me. She said, " oh you know grandpa, I don't have time for all that
foolishness. I have a family to take care of.

Now this is a young woman that grew up in the 80s and 90s. In the middle of the internet and cell phone area. We agreed to have a set down some time next week, and I can't wait to know how much she
does or doesn't know about events of the day. I love her dearly, and I am going to tread very softly here.

All that being said, It is starting to look to me like, to much knowledge all at once. Not enough time to assimilate it all.

This coming week should be very interesting.

Have a good night jSmitty45
Best to you and yours.

Retw, I think she is a lot like those in that age group. They don't take time to pay attention to what is going on, too busy with jobs, or family. Hopefully, you can enlighten her.
Have a wonderful visit, and a good week. Hopefully, Trump can drain the swamp more this week!

"I'm 75 and Tired" Worth reading...

I'm 75, Except for brief period in the 60's when I was in the Navy, I've worked hard since I was 14. Except for some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly 40 years (Hungover Several Times However!). I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honour"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand , UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 75. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughters and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

My wonderful son-in-law doesn't vote, my daughter votes all the time.. When I commented that besides being a privilege voting is a responsibility, his reply was, with the voter fraud, the lies to get elected, the graft and corruption once they get there there was no purpose, his vote was meaningless. I still think everyone should vote, but it's hard to argue with what he said

I fully understand what you are saying. Even my own last living brother, feels near the same.
Course I remind him, if that were true, we would not have Donald Trump as are dully elected President.

And all I get is " so", if you want to vote fine, I'm not stopping you. After 82 years, I know when he will not listen. Dam that makes me so mad.

But I still try, and will continue to do so.

Don, I'm sorry that you are so tired. Unfortunately, you're tired of all the wrong things. It's not about spreading the wealth to those without your work ethic, it's about paying workers the salary and benefits they deserve, and stop throwing wealth at those that are flush with cash. Every religion with a couple of exceptions seems to have different interpretations of holy texts. This is true of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. There are sects within Islam that are very much pro peace and tolerance.
Have you ever thought what will happen to future generations if we don't stop using fossil fuels? I love my grandchildren, and believe that we must do everything we can to hand over the same planet that we inherited from our grandparents. I don't think that this will cause serious problems with our current living standards. In fact it may benefit us. No more high prices for energy, a healthier environment, and energy independence sounds pretty good to me. Once we buy oil from Saudi Arabia, they are free to use it anyway they want. It is no longer our money. We may not like what Saudi Arabia does with it's energy revenues, but the same can be said for lots of other countries. The solution is to develop an energy policy that does away with buying energy from those countries we have serious political problems with.
I don't especially care for body piercing and tattoos either. I don't think that it makes it harder for people to get jobs in most cases. I got out of the navy in 1966. I remember being amazed at the long haired young people I saw working in banks, and offices in New York. Fashion is often meant to be a kind of protest of the previous generations shortcomings. I don't like many of these new trends because they were designed to turn me off, just like the styles of the sixties and seventies were meant to outrage my parents generation.
Drug addiction is a terrible thing. It kills those that have the addiction and causes great harm to those that are victims of drug addicts. I don't know what the answer is, but I do think that it is a disease, just like alcoholism. Putting people in jail for using drugs has not helped end this plague. It's hard to put tooth paste back in the tube, once its out.
I believe that people have every right to ask the government for help. They have the right to petition the government, and the Preamble of the Constitution states that one of the reasons for the Constitution is to provide for the general welfare. Personally, I'm tired of the super wealthy buying political candidates to office to advance their plans to increase their wealth at the expense of the working and middle class.
