I believe many police do become cynical simply because of the real life scum they have to deal with every day. Unfortunately, many police officers adopt an us vs them mentality and are unable to grasp that "us" includes anything but other police officers. Not making excuses, I hate the attitude at least as much as anyone else.

My father was a D.C. police officer. I can testify to the fact, that while he wasn't centered to begin with, seeing the dregs of society day in and day out, did nothing to improve his perspective.

Very strong video I just wish that all law enforcement officers would view it.

The city I live in has a new police incident once a month. From killing an innocent mentally ill janitor doing nothing but buying a bottle of pop, {the police viewed this a dangerous weapon} to an off duty policeman coming out of a bar and shooting at a man in a busy downtown neighborhood for touching his truck. Just a couple of examples. I read story after story of abuse of power all across the country. Think of the corruption in New Mexico. I know not all cops are bad, but how do we differentiate between the good and the bad, when so many have turned bad? My next door neighbor is a cop, and he is a good kid. You seem like a good person too Worried. I think part of the problem is the stimulus money from the president's first term that was supposed to be for shovel ready jobs, went to homeland security, who in turn gave the money to police departments all over the country in order to militarize them. Remember Obama's own private civilian army? The term protect and serve has taken on a new meaning as the only one's they seem to protect and serve are the one's they are getting the money from, while the rest of us seem like the enemy, and are treated as such. I'm just being observant, and you really don't have to look too hard to see what I mean. Be safe out there Worried.

I wish I had the answer to your first question. In my professional experience, I have had the opportunity to observe the goings on of about 2300 officers, obviously I have not met or interacted with all of them, but "you" see, read about, and hear things, and from that "you" can glean the bad (or lazy) apples, and try to correct the errors of their way. I know that's damn near impossible for "Joe citizen". Sorry Snipe, I tried to come up with something for you, but all the above just sounds stupid .... Guess all I can say is that I hope you don't draw the short straw to often, when ya have to interact with law enforcement.

As far as your second question, I remember reading about O's private army, aside from the black panthers etc.... That whole thing seemed to subside, unless you know something else.

P.S. Thank you, and I will, and you be safe too.

Because they are on the same power trip as Obummer. It's all about power and the excessive use of it. When one has been given the power of a policeman some officers go crazy with their inflated egos and they throw their weight around accordingly while ignoring the constitution completely. Daily, we are shown clips on tv of police abuse but, we do nothing to curb that abuse. I should know, I was one. The abuse, perhaps, could be mitigated by laws that say that a violation of a citizen's civil rights will result in the firing of the officer and he will be subjected to a large penalty and jail.

I've noticed this trend. Police are quicker to fire their weapons. While excellent marksman at a range, police tend to "spray" bullets, in real life. Look at the numbers of rounds fired and compare it to the numbers of hits.

You can train a cop to shoot but, shooting on a range is NOTHING like real conflict. When fear takes over, training goes out the window, making good cops a liability.

Where are you facts. What study was it that you refer to? Or, are you just giving your opinion. We cops did not retreat from gunfire we sped to it as fast as we could. We did not spread fire in every direction. We held fire when collateral injury was likely. And U know what, Major, unless you have been trained as a cop you don't know what you are talking about. The market place is flooded with opinions which makes all of the cheep and worthless.

First off, what a pleasure reading the 4 pages of this current strand. I've given everyone a standing ovation, while sitting here. While there have been different opinions, no name calling. Must be everyone still waking up.LOL
As for the topic at hand, in just about every jurisdiction, the law enforcement officer, along with the court system, are revenue producers. Gone are the days when Andy and Barney tossed Otis the keys to the jail cell to sleep off his being drunk.
While having to work in an adversarial environment, not giving into temptation to make a profit off the same people the large kingpins do, must be difficult. But our whole legal system, is based on blind justice. No one is above the law.
It warms my heart that we have the leaders of both political parties, only looking out for our best interest. I've always heard when something is successful it starts from the top down. Anyone care to disagree?

A little info, in which I as a employee of a county sheriffs dept, I know as a fact that the state of tennesse's sheriffs armory's have received a pallet of ammo in the calibers fitting crowd control. Under the guise of it is surplus.
This has never happened before. Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, north Carolina andalabama are on this list. Best of my research shows there were 9000 pallets were or are being distributed as we speak.
Why? Not paranoid just curios. I love my country and served it proudly. This government is not my friend. We should all inquire to if this is surplus being distributed nation wide then why does our country still have ammunition being ordered from the suppliers and delivered to bases in Germany and other places of secondary fronts of confrontation. Are they going to impose martial law like the signs produced in mexico in 2012 stated. Look out and beware.

Do you think this ammo is part of the 1.3 billion rounds that Homeland Security ordered? Surplus? Homeland Security created a shortage for the public last yr. by buying all the available supply. cops use .40 cal and 223s for AR 15s.

Its hard to think that our country is providing ways to kill Americans and I hope that the sons of america will not fire upon innocent citizens that exercise there freedom of speech or the right to assymble peaceably. Maybe I am naive or hopefully misstated. But I will kill those who intend to kill me. Sorry moms and dads. But teach your children right and they will not be the recipient's of their children's remains.

They have to see the things that are wrong not the things that are right.

Add to this that there are those that would do harm to policemen, which only makes them have more doubt about people out there

Hear, Hear Auntie-

From a legal standpoint these officers need no probable cause to pull you over. What occurs after the stop is again left to interpretation. Any decent ,honest attorney (I use the phrase loosely) would say it's a clear violation of the individuals 4th amendment rights.. However, our omnipotent ruler tramples over that same right consistently. An smart Cop knows what he is looking for. He also, is aware of how to circumvent the law. It's the police officers that believe their position provides them unlimited power . Those are the ones you have to worry about..

How Sweet it is to finally see this brought up. This is the sole purpose of the right to bear arms. It never was about protecting yourself from animals. It was clearly put in the constitution to protect us from an out of control government. One that will stock pile ammunition. While simultaneously, deliberately shortening the supply to the citizenry. You are not paranoid my brethren. The authoritarian ruler has already circumvented the constitution by way of the UN on this issue. By voting for ban in the small arms treaty. look out and beware is apropos at this juncture...

A city outside of salt lake city I'd down right criminal to the point they are bringing outside agencies to police the police. Mainly crooked cops on the take for drugs either by illegal pull overs. Or no knock search warrants. Several cops got killed with that stupid move. Can't say I blame the home owners. What's wrong with daytime raids? Its outta control period.
