(Had to post again on this, sorry.) "He knew what he signed up for" is not, I feel, necessarily insensitive or disrespectful
How many times have any of us said, "Hey, I didn't sign up for this." He did! He knowingly signed-up to possibly being mutilated or killed; this honors that soldier's calling and courage. He knowingly and with forethought put himself at mortal risk for this great county. He didn't sign-up for the motor pool or cook or MP, all these still a needed service and sacrifice for our country, but he signed-up specifically to put himself in harm's way in defense of America. To say "he knew what he signed up for" is, though awkwardly phrased, a tribute.
Rumitoid.
As a solder I stand with you on your post. It should always be remembered that all solders must "Face fear, danger or adversity (physical or moral). Personal courage has long been associated with our Army. With physical courage, it is a matter of enduring physical duress and at times risking personal safety."
War is not fun. The loss of our comrades should never form a political diatribe. I for one look down on any citizen and especially any news media which tries to curry political favor at the cost of any solders memory.

The problem Trump has is that he has no command of the English language nor does he have any empathy for anyone but himself. Since he can't put himself in the shoes of a gold star family it's impossible to express any form of sympathy and have it come across as sincere. He may not have meant to denigrate anyone but he has no other way of expressing himself...

PeterS:
Your above diatribe causes me to repeat the following statement from my above post:
"The loss of our comrades should never form a political diatribe. I for one look down on any citizen and especially any news media which tries to curry political favor at the cost of any solders memory. "Your own words just did that and there is no denial you can offer which will diminish your stupidity.
You think this shows empathy? How so?

Trump was helping Mitch McConnell, a man who recovered from polio, up the White House steps. People who have had polio sometimes have trouble walking up stairs. If Trump didn't have empathy, he never would have done it. But you wouldn't know the situation because you're seriously blinded by your ideology and hatred for Trump.

You mean like BO and Hillary lying to the families of our fallen over Benghazi now that is total disrespect right there!! And then using those in caskets as a photo op yea, baby that was some class exposed!!

Yes I do.. the empathy comes in offering his arm to McConnell regardless of the war the two men have been in because of differing views.. it comes on a President that no matter words are exchanged there is his ACTIONS in not letting McConneel suffer fear trying to climb those stairs and falling. It comes in a man who extended his arm of support, Pete and because he did then had that dumb ass reporter mock it all. Now that is a person who lacks empathy!! And class for sure!!
Where is your disgust of her.
A lot depends on the context of Trump's remark. It could be considered innocent or inappropriate depending on the context.

It appears the liberal media and politicians are trying their best to walk over the body of a fallen solder to get to their public podiums just so they can interpret President Trumps words to fit their hatred of him.
Do you really think President Trump called the wife and parents of the dead solder so he could insult them? No!....Those are the tirades of liberals who have such hatred they cannot see their own stupidity, or -
They just don't care who they hurt just so they can beat their chests. This whole liberal diatribe is just pathetic and they should hide their faces in shame!....
