Take your hat off to our Armed Forces members

One thing about it, when things get tough, I'll stand my ground! I didn't run when I had the opportunity, and now, I couldn't if I wanted to... lol.

You have to take your hat off to our Armed Forces members for their service. Generally, you can see a vast difference in their attitudes and perspectives versus their civilian counter-parts: Responsibilities; Unselfish considerations toward others, not only for their team but usually toward everyone and their willingness and courage to wear our colors!

For our politicians (and the high ranking military echelon) who are so intent on continuing our presence within the Middle-East, it is time to don the combat uniforms without the fanfare, walk into the 'fire-fights', endure the hardships and express 'freedom and liberties' to the top of their lungs with the same meaning as they are willing to freely sacrifice other people's children to their endeavors.

Where is the logic "Common Sense" for the pain we endure and inflict upon ourselves and others? Are the principles great enough that you will freely give up your love one for our continual conflict? If not, why are you so bold to hide in the distance and watch other people's children harmed? For your Security and Safety, give me a break!!!

A realistic view of the men and women who serve in our military is not needed. They stand on that wall between us and the enemy, whoever that is. The sailors needlessly lost at sea recently, the crash of a helicopter off the Yemen coast, and many other non-combat deaths make them no less heroes. They all knew they were putting their life on the line to protect us.

It's not a "free sacrifice" it's a very costly sacrifice, freely given, totally understood and accepted by those of us who have made it and disrespected by those who do not understand. You won't find many of those who served rioting against President Trump and although they knew Obama never had their backs the active duty were not openly hostile towards him. They did not love him as they did Bush. Discipline!

Tom, If we don’t have a realistic view, then our alternative = Senseless, half-baked, ill-conceived, brainless, asinine, imbecilic, foolish, unrealistic concepts and consideration of others around us! Isn’t this narcissistic and arrogant? I know, we are all going to die in this world, so should we hold your life less meaningful and without purpose? Are those around you so foolish when we bestow any consideration on your behalf!

padremike, I totally agree with you.

My hat is off to our men and women in our military services -- God bless them. Several big problems today. Nixon should have never ended the draft. All or most all young people should serve their country in some form or another -- hopefully the military. The All Volunteer Force (AVF) sounded good when it was implemented but in my opinion it is failing big time today. Too many citizens and too many members of Congress have never been in the military. Obama made the our military a social experiment -- one Big Bad deal. It seems that we are more about education and self esteem in our military today than we are in readiness to fight a war. E.g. the recent collisions of Navy ships with merchant ships in the Pacific.

Women don't belong aboard combatant ships nor in foxholes or in the cockpits of combat aircraft. Nor do we need open homosexuals and transgenders in the military -- They are all gigantic detractors from combat readiness. If the people who ordered all the social changes in our military had to implement them and make them work -- there would be far fewer social changes. Men and women placed together in close quarters results in sexual favors -- it's just nature taking its course. I would hate to be a Commanding Officer of a Navy Ship or a combat Infantry Unit these days -- the detractors are just too great and the probability is too great for failure.

From a 30 Navy veteran and former Commanding Officer multiple times.

ProudTiger, I'm amenable to your perspective.

The last consideration that a combat team (squad, platoon, company, etc.) needs are additional emotional issues. You don't need individuals upset over trivial matters like someone being overly protective of their sexual lovers and forgetting those around them; you don't need individuals relinquishing their combat position to escort another for personal relief (bathroom break) or angered because someone glances in their lover's direction which is normal to keep the enemy at bay, preventing any surprises, and a Commander/leader whether a Commission Officer or NCO should not be making bias decisions and assignments based on their sexual involvement.

The 'draft' is advantageous in many ways:

1) Minimizes the 'Political Elite' attitudes for encouraging enemy conflicts half way around the world without recognizing substantial True and Rational national security interest, concerns
and impact. Many political leaders would be more hesitant policing the world if their loved ones (spouse, sons, daughters, best friends and contributors) were on the front lines at any given moment.

2) It cuts the apron strings providing young people with roles of responsibility as adults. There's usually a vast difference in the attitudes and actions of those serving in the military and their civilian counter-parts. When a young man, 30 or so, has 3 or 4 government-sponsored children with different women and still resides with his Mommy... something is definitely wrong! It doesn't hurt a capable young person to clean and skin potatoes or wash pots and pans for 2 - 3,000 of his fellow citizens... I can attest to this! Often makes individuals more appreciative of those who have sacrificed for helping them.

3) It allows diversity of experience, talent and abilities. Our weapon systems have a greater opportunity for enhancement when you have more people devoting their time, intelligence, efforts and ability for potential improvements.

4) Less expensive on the 'bottom-line.'

5) Etc.

Do I think the Draft will ever be re-implemented... NO, not on your life, we have sold out to a New World Order; turned our backs from our CREATOR who Blessed this nation (it's a shame, but even my dog knows her master); our nation is filled with a proud and arrogant people with hidden enemies from within; and people too self-concerned oblivious to their neighbors... it's so much easier to turn your back on those unknown to you than someone you like.

We have a little time left as a nation: I believe, we will see great disasters like horrendous hurricanes, tornadoes, unimaginable dust storms, floods, and earthquakes; our food and water supplies will famish; outside enemies will strike with devastating fury the world has never witnessed; and the hidden enemies from within will surface with a violent rage sparing no one old or young, dashing babies against the walls of their homes. The 'writing is on the wall!'

I can say this with all confidence:

GOD is not a figment of man's imagination... The GOD of the Bible is real!
Man is a figment of GOD's imagination... that makes us real!
