If the young dictator tests missile, why don't we test our defense missiles at the same time?

Seoul. Plain and simple. I believe eventually we will.
I think if we knock a few out, it wll really get his dander up.
We brought the Soviet Union to it's knees because of their culture and their lack of freedom. Their youth desired freedom and didn't like the soviet totalitarian culture. We bombarded the East with Rock 'n' Roll which undermined the influence of the politburo and the older generation of communists. The same can be done in N. Korea. Great Leader is more interested in retaining power than he is in starting a nuclear war. So start a culture war without guns! It can be done.
Not saying you are wrong but Soviet leaders were thugs, and communists but not bat shit crazy. The leader of N. Korea is irrational.
Predicting how he will react is impossible.

Yes, the Soviets were thugs and they were defeated without using guns. On the other hand, Gorbachev could see the writing on the wall and was reasonable. Great leader isn't so rational and will do almost anything to retain power. All I am saying is that we should try. Who knows if it would work. But it would require a concerted effort on the part of all the world powers. If China would quit supplying the North with oil, their industrial base, what little there is would dry up. Make conditions for the N. Koreans so bad that the people will eventually demand change. Smuggle products from the West and send broadcasts showing how the S. Koreans live. Great Leader can't kill everyone. Their own people are the only ones who can bring about the needed change. If they are to afraid and fearful of the regime then they don't deserve to enjoy freedom. Freedom is never free!
Anyone have a better idea?
Well, it's hard to overthrow dear leader w/o weapons. I suggest we take all the weapons the CIA is giving the Sharia thugs and put the on rafts and float them onto N Korea's shore so the people can rise up. Or maybe just sling shots with steel ball bearings, quite, deadly, effective.

Actually, the USSR went down because they were spending so much on the military they had nothing left to take care of the people.

That's been the story people bought into for a long time; that Reagan forced them into spending too much for military. The fall of the USSR was inevitable and hastened because of Gorbachev's realization that control could no longer work: His policy of Perestroika and Glasnost was all she wrote. The winds of change were already upon them. It had started in the 1950's and 60's (Elvis in Berlin) with the youth craving western music.
That is true, but quakerwidow is right also. The paranoia in Russia at the time over Reagan was real. They did outspend their economy due to "starwars".

I would rather spend more on the military and less on space exploring. How much would it cost to send astronauts to mars? Just wondering.
Send the liberals. One way.
